A backward to forward scanning periodic microstrip leaky wave antenna (MLWA) is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a long rectangular patch with alternating shorting pin on each side, which connects the antenna patch and the ground plane to form periodic shorting circuits. There are two pairs of slots alternately spaced on the long patch to suppress the open stop band (OSB). The OSB problem was initially reduced by optimizing the structural parameters, and the slotting on the patch further improved it. The measured radiation pattern in the y-z plane shows that the antenna can scan electronically from 142° to 39° toward the end-fire (+z direction) when the operating frequency changes from 6 GHz to 12.9 GHz. The measured gain is greater than 5 dBi over the entire operating band.

Background & Objective: Internet of things devices managed by wireless networks so that higher data rates can be achieved. With increase in demand of usage of Internet microwave signals are capable for delivering the demand. However these high frequency waves needs a waveguide to propagate otherwise they get affected due to atmospheric attenuation and rain fade. a modified structure of rectangular waveguide is used named as Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW). In this paper, the work has been carried out taking SIW and Leaky Wave Antenna. The dielectric substrate was taken as carbon. Modeling of SIW Leaky wave Antenna is done by making C shaped Slots. Design steps for modeling LWA were orderly pursued also optimized with various equations followed by Finite Element Method based modeling. A range of frequency as input is taken from 7 GHz to 11 GHz to take the analysis of design modeled. Results & Conclusion: The result shows the electric field intensity and radiation pattern is directly proportional with frequency while the return loss is acceptable for applied frequency range. The proposed antenna can radiate in omni directional radiation pattern hence can be used to connect devices with IoT.

A new kind of circular polarization leaky-wave antenna with N-shaped slots cut in the upper side of substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is investigated and presented. The radiation pattern and polarization axial ratio of the leaky-wave antenna are studied. The results show that the width of N-shaped slots has significant effect on the circular polarization property of the antenna. By properly choosing structural parameters, the SIW based leaky-wave antenna can realize circular polarization with excellent axial ratio in 8 GHz satellite band.
