This article provides an insight on the status of readership of e-newspapers and its impact. This paper examines the progress of online newspapers focusing on their impact on the news industry and determines their effectiveness in present scenario .This paper provides data on reader’s preferences of online newspapers and focuses on reasons why online papers are lagging behind in India. It was found that the most important aspect of all online newspapers in Punjab was to provide continual 24 hours news services. The content of web editions of most newspapers is totally dependant on print editions. The demographic features of readers of web editions are varying but their interest of news about India can be tapped. Online editions have infused new energy and life in Indian newspaper as today’s life of hurry and worry, people who can’t view newspapers can easily go through online editions of newspapers.
