The radiative meson decays V→ Pγ and P →γγ are analysed using the quark triangle diagram. Experimental data yield well determined estimates of the universal quark–antiquark–meson couplings gvqq′ and gpqq′ for the light meson sector. Also predictions for the ratios of neutral to charged heavy meson decay coupling constants are given and await experimental confirmation.

We show that all abnormal parity three-body meson interactions can be adequately described by quark loops, evaluated at zero external momentum, with couplings determined by U(Nf) symmetry. We focus primarily on radiative meson decays which involve one pseudoscalar. The agreement with experiment for nonrare decays is surprisingly good and requires very few parameters, namely the coupling constants gπqq and gρqq and some mixing angles. This agreement extends to some three-body decays that are dominated by pion pairs in a P-wave state.

The experimental data on the radiative decays of mesons (not involving charm) are reviewed. The consistency of these data with SU(3) symmetry, vector dominance, and the quark model is discussed.

Studies of light meson decays are the key experiments for the WASA detector at COSY-Jülich. One of the world largest data samples of the η meson decays have been recently collected in the pd →3 He η and in the pp → ppη reactions. The status of the analysis of various decay channels and the further plans for the light meson decay program are presented.

Boron-nitrogen compounds were studied with respect to indirect nuclear 15N-11B spin-spin coupling (1J(15N,11B)). Some new experimental data were determined for aminoboranes and tetra-Npyrrolylborate, and a variety of compounds with B-N single, double and triple bonds were examined using DFT methods for the calculation of 1J(15N,11B) at the B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) level of theory. The calculations predict magnitude and sign of 1J(15N,11B) reasonably well, and the Fermi contact term was found to be dominant. A positive sign of 1J(15N,11B) was calculated in the case of 1-azacloso- dodecaborane(12), in contrast to all other compounds studied.

An integrated approach of experiment and theoretical computation to acquire enthalpies of formation for ternary compounds is described. The enthalpies of formation (DHf ) for Al71Fe19Si10 and Al31Mn6Ni2 are measured via a calorimeter. Miedema model, CALPHAD and first-principles method are employed to calculate DHf for the above compounds and several Al-based ternary compounds. It is found that first-principles generated data yield good agreements with experimental values and thus can be used as key 'experimental data', which are needed for CALPHAD approach.
