The purpose of the study is to identify the impact of the application of audiovisual aids in improving teaching and learning of computer science in Senior Secondary School in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State. Out of 1500 Secondary Schools in Awka North Local Government Area. Seventy (70) Students from Senior Secondary School (SS1) students were selected using random sampling technique to serve as the sample. Structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Mean and percentage were employed for data analysis. The major findings are that, Audio visual materials are not usually available for teaching and learning of computer science in senior secondary schools. Using audio visual materials in teaching and learning of computer science has positive effects on students’ academic performance. Audio visual aids have a lot of benefits in improving qualitative computer education in senior secondary schools. Government and other citizens should provide audio visual materials to secondary schools in Nigeria. Experienced and qualified computer science teachers at least with Nigeria Certificate in Nigeria (NCE) should be employed to teach in secondary schools in Nigeria. School authorities should always checkmate whether teachers make use of audio visual aids in teaching.

The study entitled 'Constraints in English Language Teaching and Learning in Senior Secondary Schools: Strategies for Implementation' seeks to unravel the myriad of problems in teaching and learning the English Language in senior secondary schools and offers strategies that can be implemented to salvage the situation. Learning to teach is more than simply knowing the results of research and theory; it always involves learning the ‘craft’ of classroom exposition, explanation, organization, and guidance. The desired outcome of the language learning process is the ability to communicate competently, not the ability to the ability to use the language exactly as a native speaker does. To guide the study, three research questions were posed. The questions examined the following three variables: (1) the constraints in teaching English; (2) the constraints in learning English; and (3) strategies for implementation in senior secondary schools. The research will be carried out in two senior secondary schools in Kenema City, Eastern Sierra Leone (Government Senior Secondary School and Methodist Senior Secondary School). The study revealed that: the lack of adequate teaching and learning materials, poor pedagogical and academic subject matter competency, and the negative attitude of students towards the English Language, account for the major constraints in the teaching and learning of the subject.

Abstract Using a constructivist lens, this study investigated the role of school libraries in supporting an inquiry-based approach for teaching and learning science subjects in senior secondary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria, the challenges faced and possibilities presented. The significance of this study is based on the importance Nigeria has assigned to science education as a means to achieving national development. A mixed-methods approach was chosen for the study. The population of the study included school librarians, principals, and science teachers in public senior secondary schools as well as staff in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology concerned with supporting and managing resources for science teaching and learning. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observation. Quantitative data collected through the questionnaires were analyzed using the SPSS, while qualitative data were transcribed and thematically analyzed. The findings revealed the library resource most frequently available in school libraries for supporting science curriculum implementation is a textbook. Most of the staff in charge of the library had no librarianship qualification. Teacher-centred approaches predominated amongst teachers. The study emphasizes how school libraries are underrated as support for the curriculum. It proffers some far reaching recommendations to position school libraries for better performance.

This study examined the availability of instructional materials and students’ academic performance in senior secondary schools, Maiduguri Metropolis, Borno State, Nigeria. Two (2) objectives and a null hypothesis were used to determine the availability of instructional materials and students’ academic performance in senior secondary schools in Borno state. Survey and Correlational design were used. The total population of the study was 1,236 teachers and 10,349 students out of which 371 teachers and 3,105 students were sampled through simple random sampling. SSCE results for five consecutive years of the 2014-2018 academic sessions were obtained for the study. Checklist and Pro-forma were used for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient, frequency and percentage at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed a significant relationship between availability of instructional materials and students’ academic performance in senior secondary schools in Maiduguri Metropolis. The study also found that the instructional materials for teaching and learning are available. Based on the findings, it was recommended that government and other stakeholders should continue to support schools in the state with the necessary instructional materials needed for teaching and learning and School administration should emphasize the use of instructional materials to make learning easier.

This study sought to determine the adequacy and utilization of ICT facilities for teaching and learning business subjects in public senior secondary schools in Osun State of Nigeria. Mixed method research design involving the distribution of questionnaires and the conduct of follow-up interviews was used for the study. The population consisted of business educators teaching in public secondary schools. No sample was drawn; the entire population was studied. The results show that ICT facilities are barely available, grossly inadequate and largely unutilized in teaching business subjects in Osun State public secondary schools in spite of the much-heralded introduction of ”Opon Imo” computer tablets supposedly made available to all senior secondary school students in the state. The study opined that government and other education stakeholders should provide functional ICT facilities and personnel in public secondary schools.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is an instrument par excellence that a nation can rely upon to bring about self-reliance in an educational system. Therefore, there is the need to integrate ICT into teaching and learning; hence, the study investigated the assessment of Teachers’ and Students’ level of utilization of ICT tools for teaching and learning mathematics in Ilorin, Nigeria. The study was a descriptive research of the survey type. The population for the study was all senior secondary schools in Ilorin, Kwara State. A total of 170 students and 50 mathematics teachers were randomly selected from senior secondary schools in Ilorin. The instrument used for the study was a researchers-designed questionnaire, which comprised of 24 ICT tools. The instrument was validated and the reliability index of 0.78 was obtained. The data gathered was analyzed statistically using simple percentage and Chi-Square statistics analyses. The findings revealed amongst others that; mathematics teachers and students utilized ICT tools for teaching and learning mathematics respectively. Also, mathematics teachers and students were not skilled in utilizing ICT tools. The findings from the study show that the gender of both teachers and students does not have any influence on the teaching and learning of mathematics with the use of ICT tools. Based on the findings, It was, therefore, recommended among others that seminars and workshops should be organized for both female and male mathematics teachers on the benefits and how to incorporate ICT tools into their teaching activities and students should be encouraged to familiarize themselves with ICT tools so as to increase their level of competencies in the use of ICT tools.

The study assessed the effectiveness and utilization of field trip as a method of teaching and learning chemistry at senior secondary schools in Owerri Municipal Council Area of Imo State, Nigeria. The population of the study was all the 4664 chemistry students in the government-owned secondary schools in the Council. Simple random sampling technique was used to select five schools and 20% of the numbers of chemistry students in each of the sampled schools were used to obtain the sample size of 288 chemistry students. Four research questions were posed for the study. The research was descriptive survey design and questionnaires were used to elicit relevant data while mean rating was used for the analyses of the data obtained for the study. The results gave grand means of 3.14, 1.70, 3.51 and 3.21 for research questions 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. These findings showed that field trip is interactive, motivating and provides opportunity for chemistry students to widen their practical knowledge of industrial application of chemistry; chemistry teachers do not utilize field trip in teaching and learning of chemistry; lack of chemistry and chemical process-based industries, time constraint, transportation cost/risk, and the organizing process are the factors that influence effective utilization of field trip. Based on the findings, it was recommended that school field trips should reinforce the curriculum and they should be arranged at every level of the Department at various times, criterion based set of guidelines for planning and conducting successful field trips should be developed; workshops and seminars should be organized for teachers on the importance of field trip and its utilization in the teaching and learning of chemistry. Again, when considering a field trip, teachers are advised to first consult with their administrator regarding existing school board policies and follow that recommended procedure. School authorities should assist in the provision of funds or transportation for field trips.
