In recent years, researchers studying anxiety in high school students have determined that therapeutic videos and articles are effective as auxiliary intervention methods. However, the specific types of videos or articles that are most effective remain unclear. Current research has focused on the dynamic effect of various types of videos or articles on adolescents' anxiety levels to find suitable types of videos or articles to be used as materials during interventions. The study is divided into two phases. In the first phase of the study, a questionnaire was distributed to 2120 participants from China regarding their anxiety level and their preferred materials during online surfing; The results indicate that five types of materials were related to adolescents’ anxiety levels. In the second phase of the study, Ecological Momentary Assessment was used to continuously measure 30 participants’ anxiety levels over the course of ten days. The results show that while scenic video, online fiction, classic literature, and literature criticism positively affected an individual’s emotions. There was no significant effect when entertainment videos were used. In addition, only scenic videos were able to alleviate anxiety in the long term.

The title above has explained the purpose of this study, which is observing Matic's implication of children's moral values acquisition from learning activities to sing Pupuh Sunda Song in Elementary Schools – West Java. The methodology used is ethno-pedagogic because the extent of data collection and exploration were conducted toward the concept containing values that existed and lived amid the society within the context of ethnic tradition, that is, as far as signs and meanings are stored and expressed in vocal art expressions in the form of Pupuh Sunda song acted as a medium is message education praxis. Therefore, the phenomenology approach was carried out to observe a series of phenomena that can be analyzed during the concept values repeated into the performer's subconscious, the song, movements, and expressions in shared or personal situations. The stressing keyword point in this study is the repetition that can be assumed as a mechanical act on every subject learn to sing moral message content sung. The mechanical process activities result by repeating song memorization, expressing moral values inside the song. Qualitatively, it can be described as an automatic implication that has the potential and function as a fostering for the concept of value in building the expected character. Such as the direct utterance stored in the song containing the invitation and teaching always to be cheerful, accept everything with generosity, care to all being (compassionate), diligent in studying and fond of working, respecting the parents and teachers, love to the homeland and defending the state and nations, which becomes the focus of study.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused lockdowns and sudden school closures around the world in spring 2020, significantly impacting the education of students. Here, we investigate how the switch to distance learning affected study activity and performance in an online retrieval practice tool used for language learning in Dutch secondary education. We report insights from a rich data set consisting of over 115 million retrieval practice trials completed by more than 133 thousand students over the course of two consecutive school years. Our findings show that usage of the tool increased substantially at the start of lockdown, with the bulk of study activity occurring on weekday mornings. In general, students’ progress through the material was largely unaffected by lockdown, although students from the highest educational track were somewhat more likely to be on or ahead of schedule than students from lower tracks, compared to the previous year. Performance on individual study trials was generally stable, but accuracy and response time on open answer questions went up, perhaps as a result of students being more focused at home. These encouraging findings contribute to a growing literature on the educational ramifications of distance learning during lockdown.

In-game purchases, including microtransactions and loot box spending, are the monetization systems of free-to-play online games. Although some studies have suggested that excessive in-game purchases increase the risk of psychosocial maladjustment and mental distress as well as predict future problematic gaming and gambling practices, empirical studies on problematic behavioral patterns related to in-game purchasing among adolescents are lacking. This study sought to explore whether knowing the style of in-game purchases (non-purchase, planned purchase, or unplanned purchase) could be useful when characterizing maladaptive behavior among adolescents from the perspective of psychosocial adjustment and mental distress. A total of 335 junior high school students (aged 12–15 years) participated in the survey and completed a questionnaire assessing daily online gaming usage, in-game purchases, psychosocial adjustment, and mental distress. The results showed that (1) 30.7% of students had previously made in-game purchases, and at least 14.0% had made unplanned in-game purchases; (2) 19.2% of the users who had made unplanned purchases had spent greater than or equal to their actual monthly allowance within the past month, and (3) unplanned purchase gamers exhibited more behavioral problems and peer problems regarding psychosocial adjustment compared to planned purchase gamers, and more overall difficulties compared to non-purchasers. Meanwhile, more hyperactivity/inattention was seen among in-game purchasers compared to non-purchasers, regardless of whether the purchase was planned or unplanned. These findings support that understanding whether adolescents make unplanned in-game purchases could be a useful approach to describing the characteristics of online gamers with maladaptive tendencies.

In Australia, there are numerous outreach initiatives run by universities for Indigenous high school students that attempt to elevate aspirations of Indigenous students to go to university. The theoretical case for these initiatives is strong as much data exists surrounding the barriers Indigenous students face in entering university. However, the research and evidence base for these equity programs remains largely underdeveloped and limited (Bennett et al., 2015). Drawing on findings from interviews with Indigenous university students as part of a National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) Equity Fellowship, this paper identifies what works and what areas to strengthen in Indigenous specific outreach programs. The paper concludes by discussing the development of strategies and resources to build the evidence base of effective outreach activities for Indigenous students.

Purpose Historically, literacy education and research have been dominated by white supremacist narratives that marginalize and deficitize the literate practices of Black students. As anti-Blackness proliferates in US schools, Black youth suffer social, psychological, intellectual, and physical traumas. Despite relentless attacks of anti-Blackness, Black youth fight valiantly through a range of creative outlets, including multimodal compositions, that enable them to move beyond negative stereotypes, maintain their creativity, and manifest the present and future lives they desire and so deeply deserve. Design/methodology/approach This study aims to answer the question “How do Black students' multimodal renderings demonstrate creativity and love in ways that disrupt anti-Blackness?” The authors critically examine four multimodal compositions created by Black elementary and middle school students to understand how Black youth author a more racially just society and envision self-determined, joyful futures. The authors take up Black Livingness as a theoretical framework and use visual methodologies to analyze themes of Black life, love and hope in the young people’s multimodal renderings. Findings The findings suggest that Black youth creatively compose multimodal renderings that are humanizing, allowing their thoughts, feelings and experiences to guide their critiques of the present world and envision new personal and societal futures. The authors conclude with a theorization of a Black Livingness Pedagogy that centers care for Black youth. Originality/value Recognizing that “the creation and use of images [is] a practice of decolonizing methodology” (Brown, 2013, loc. 2323), the authors examine Black student-created multimodal compositional practices to understand how Black youth author a more racially just society and envision self-determined, joyful futures.

There is a disagreement in the neuropsychological literature regarding the nature of observational learning, strictly without a motor component. While some studies claim explicit influences are needed in order for learning to occur, others argue that they are not. The current student aims at understanding this gap, in particular emphasizing the observation aspect, since there is a limited number of research on this component. An experiment was conducted to measure both the short- and long-term of this effect using a neutral parameter procedure among two groups and a control. It was found that there was a significant effect of implicit learning. These findings are analyzed in a behavioral aspect and taken into consideration for limitations, implications and future research.

The present study investigates the impacts of bilingualism on academic performance among high school students by using cognitive assessment scores as proxies for GPAs. As seminal works, finding a constant bilingual advantage (BA), are being increasingly disproved in favor a selective BA, task demand in working memory (WM) was introduced to examine this. A mixed method was used. Participants completed a self-assessment survey, rating their academic performance and beliefs regarding the bilingual advantage hypothesis. Then, the flanker and modified flanker tasks tested participants’ WM. Using measurements of  the means, medians and p-test, it was discovered that bilingual students only outperformed monolinguals on the low demand regular flanker task while equally on all other tasks, not in accordance with the Executive Control Theory (ECT) commonly supported in recent works. Additionally, the survey revealed that both monolingual and bilingual students recognize the positive impacts of language on cognition, but not the application of cognition to increased school performance. By bringing awareness to this relationship, this could encourage more students to study a foreign language in high school, bridging the cognitive-linguistic gap.

Purpose: The study sought to explore the parental and peer factors that influence adolescent self-identity development of senior high school students in the Effutu Municipality. Methodology: The descriptive survey design using the quantitative method was adopted for the study. A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data for the study. Simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 310 students for the study. Frequencies, percentages were used to answer the research questions while Independent-Samples t-test was used to test the hypotheses. Findings: The findings revealed that frequent parent-adolescent communication enhances adolescent self-identity development. It was also found that peer feedback was a source of adolescent self-identity development. The study also revealed that there was statistically significant gender difference with regard to peer factors contributing to adolescent self-identity development. Unique contribution to theory and practice: It was recommended that during Parents Teachers Association meetings, parents should be educated by the schools on the need to create conducive environments at home to help their children build strong self-identities since parents make impact on their self-identity development.
