AbstractThis chapter outlines a brief history of social work with groups including its place within the larger social work field and the landscapes of group work practice and education. Basic theory and concepts in social work with groups are presented including mutual aid, the centrality of relationships, and an introduction to the non-deliberative social work tradition. The presence of group work in social work practice has significantly increased due as research studies have piled up to support its efficacy. Nevertheless, at the same time, the presence of group work in social work education has steadily declined in the past several decades.

An important part of the Asturian lexicon is that which refers to solidarity inagricultural and livestock work. The various kinds of community work were (and still remain) occasions for collaboration between neighbors, at a time when the environment provided everything to live, so the least essential thing was to have a good relationship with the neighbors. In this sense, words and toponyms were true lessons that those grandparents gave to the children and grandchildren of that time. Since nobody was giving away anything, it was necessary to join hands, wisdoms and hoes to fix the roads, to collaborate in the mountain pastures or to look after to the most needy. In short: it is the words of the landscape that, once again, bearwitness to the customs of the past that are essential for the future, even in these technified times of the beginning of the millennium. They are the long history of the Asturian landscape written in the words.

Although the feminist perspective has been significant throughout the history of social work, its presence in the contemporary profession seems less prominent. This qualitative pilot study explores the views of social work educators (N=56) on the role of the feminist perspective in social work education and their experience with student responses regarding the tenets of feminism as applied to social work education and practice. Although a majority of respondents expressed support for integrating feminism into the curriculum, some sought guidance on the presentation of the feminist perspective in social work education and practice. In addition, an analysis of social work scholarly periodicals for feminist topics and perspectives revealed an apparent fading of feminism in the literature.
