The spatial and temporal sound wave distribution in stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) cells was calculated for focussed laser beams. The pump power was varied up to the saturation values. The spontaneous scattering was determined from comparison with experimental results. Using this model the influence of the pulse length, the focal length, the cell length and other parameters on the distribution of the sound wave and the SBS-reflectivity can be discussed.
