AbstractTruncus arteriosus communis is a rare CHD, accounting for only 1% of all congenital cardiac abnormalities. It has been associated with other malformations of the heart, mainly truncal valve (bicuspid/quadricuspid) and aortic arch abnormalities such as right, interrupted, and hypoplastic aortic arch. Cor tratriatrum sinistrum is another rare CHD, and it has been associated with other cardiac defects such as anomalous pulmonary venous drainage, ventricular septal defect, coarctation of the aorta, and tetralogy of Fallot. The combination of truncus arteriosus communis and cor tratriatrum sinistrum has not been reported so far. This case study describes the diagnosis of a unique case, including these two very rare cardiac defects and the successful surgical treatment thereafter.

The desmoid tumor is benign, uncommon, and frequently recurs after excision. It can be confusing in terms of diagnosis and treatment due to its ability to achieve large size, causing functional limitation and/or pain. Its overall clinical characteristics can mimic those of its malignant counterparts. Because of its high rate of recurrence, surgical treatment should include a wide excision around the margins.

SummaryA case study is presented of a Hanoverian filly with a corneo-scleral laceration. The lesion was the result of self-inflicted trauma. Medical treatment was instituted for the first twenty-four hours after the injury. Aggressive surgical treatment was necessary to attempt to save the eye and for the future use of a cosmetic scleral shell. The owner of the filly decided upon surgical repair of the corneo-scleral laceration and the eventual use of a cosmetic scleral shell. As the filly matures, the shell will need to be enlarged in order to fill the enlarging orbit.
