Keyword(s):
Tick-borne infections are very serious illnesses in healthy children and adults. The clinical presentation is often nonspecific and diagnosis is difficult. Clinicians should have a high index of suspicion for tick-borne infections and begin appropriate empirical antibiotic therapy for the best therapeutic outcome. This chapter reviews the 4 most common tick-borne infections in the United States: Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, babesiosis, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
