In osteochondrosis of the spine, an important role is played by compensatory muscular reactions leading to fixation of the affected spinal motion segment (VMS), to the development of antalgic postures, in which the intensity of pain impulses decreases. Ya. Yu. Popelyansky identified the following types of myofixation according to the topical principle - local-vertebral, vertebral and extravertebral.
