Objectives: Laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) is becoming popular for the treatment of acute appendicitis. Since it was the first described, LA has been modified various times. We present the results of a new technique of LA conducted through a single port. Materials and methods: From March 2011 to November 2011, we have performed 28 operations Single Port Laparoscopic Appendectomy at the Surgical Department of Hue Central Hospital. Results: There were 28 patients, 57.1% were female, 42.9% were male, rate female/male was 1.3. The mean age is 36.4. The second port insertion was required in 2 patients (7.2%). Mean operation time was 44.6 minutes and postoperative hospital stay 3-5 days took 71.4%. Postoperative compications occurred in 1 case (3.6%) was of omphalitis. During 2-4 weeks follow up no problem related to the appendectomy have been reported. Conclusions: Single - port intracorporeal appendectomy procedure is a safe, minimal invasive procedure with excellent cosmetic results.

Abstract Purpose Glove single-port laparoscopy-assisted transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) has been successfully carried out in our medical center. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of this emerging operation. Methods This technique was performed by self-made glove single-port laparoscopic platform to radically resect low rectal cancer. Short-term postoperative results, including complications, length of hospital stay, and follow-up results were collected and analyzed statistically. Results There are five consecutive patients (three males, two females) who underwent this surgery and included in this study. The mean distance from the tumor to the anal verge was 4.8 cm (range 4.0–6.0). The surgery was completed in all cases, and the rectal tumor was removed successfully without conversion; circumferential margins of all the excised specimens were negative. The mean time of operation was 338.00 min (range 280–400). The average number of lymph node dissection was 12.20. The average postoperative hospital stay was 8.60 days. During the follow-up (14.80 ± 1.92 months), all preventive ileostomies were successfully closed in about 3 months after the surgery, all patients had satisfactory anal function, and no tumor recurrence was found. Conclusion Glove single-port laparoscopy-assisted TaTME has a significant effect in specific patients with low rectal cancer, with rapid recovery and high safety. Prospective randomized studies involving more case counts and long-term follow-up results, especially oncologic outcomes, are needed to validate this technique.

ABSTRACT Background: Surgeries with single port access have been gaining ground among surgeons who seek minimally invasive procedures. Although this technique uses only one access, the incision is larger when compared to laparoscopic cholecystectomy and this fact can lead to a higher incidence of incisional hernias. Aim: To compare the incidence of incisional hernia after laparoscopic cholecystectomy and by single port. Methods: A total of 57 patients were randomly divided into two groups and submitted to conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy (n=29) and laparoscopic cholecystectomy by single access (n=28). The patients were followed up and reviewed in a 40.4 month follow-up for identification of incisional hernias. Results: Follow-up showed 21,4% of incisional hernia in single port group and 3.57% in conventional technique. Conclusions: There was a higher incidence of late incisional hernia in patients submitted to single port access cholecystectomy compared to conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
