In this paper SrBi2Nb2O9 was prepared by molten salt synthesis method and KCl chosen as molten medium. In order to disclose possible formation mechanism of SrBi2Nb2O9, a simple route was established for comparison by dividing the starting precursors into four groups. With the help of XRD, possible synthesis route was analyzed. The results showed that pure SrBi2Nb2O9 powders could be obtained at temperature higher than 700oC by molten salt synthesis. Intense synthesis reaction happened in the temperature range from 500 to 700oC. The reaction mechanisms of SrBi2Nb2O9 included four steps, namely the formation of 1) SrBi2O4 at close to 600oC,2) BiNbO4 from the reaction of at 600-700 oC, 3) SrBi2Nb2O9 from the reaction of SrBi2O4 and Nb2O5 and 4)SrBi2Nb2O9 from the reaction of BiNbO4 and SrCO3. The molten salt could improve distribution and reactivity of the precursors and significant formation of SrBi2Nb2O9.

Plate-like Sr3Ti2O7powders with anisotropy were prepared by KCl molten salt synthesis (MSS) method, the effect of different SrCO3/TiO2ratio and calcination condition on the phase transition, particle size and morphology of powders were investigated. The results show that SrTiO3phase coexist with Sr3Ti2O7phase and SrTiO3is the main phase as the SrCO3/TiO2ratio is 1.15~1.25:1. Pure Sr3Ti2O7phase can be obtained as the SrCO3/TiO2ratio is 1.55~1.65:1. The aspect ratio of plate-like particles increases firstly and then decreases as the SrCO3/TiO2ratio increases. The sealed and unsealed condition has no influence on the phase structure of the powders. But the aspect ratio of unsealed particles is smaller than that of sealed particle. Finally, the formation mechanism for Sr3Ti2O7particles was discussed.

Plate-like Magnesium Aluminum spinel (MgAl2O4) with octahedral structure was synthesized using Al2O3plate-like particles and MgO powders as raw materials in the molten salt of LiCl, KCl or NaCl, respectively. The Results indicated that the molten salts accelerated MA formation, and LiCl was more effective than KCl and NaCl, which may be attributed to the higher solubility of MgO in the former than in the latter two. The outline shape of MA spinel product phase was the same as that of original plate-like Al2O3particles. The growth mechanism of plate-like MgAl2O4spinel particles with octahedral structure should be governed by “template formation mechanism” accompanied with “dissolution-precipitation mechanism”.
