Abstract The objective of this paper is the investigation of the annual performance of a solar power plant with linear Fresnel reflectors in the El-Oued region at Algeria. The solar collectors produce water steam that feeds a turbine to produce electricity. The System Advisor Model (sam) tool is used for simulation. The mean net daily electricity production rate from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm is 48 MWe, and the respective annual production is 210,336 MWh/year. The mean daily optical efficiency of the solar field was close to 52%, while the mean thermal efficiency was about 39%. The net daily cycle efficiency is found to be 24%. The net capital cost of the examined system is $393 million, and the developer net present value is $47 million; the investor net present value is $15 million, the entire period of capital recovery is 11 years, and the levelized cost of electricity is 0.0382 $/kWh. The solar power plant leads to the yearly avoidance of 420,672 tons carbon dioxide emissions (operational cost savings of $6.1 million). Based on the obtained results, linear Fresnel reflectors can be used to achieve satisfying, energetic, financial, and environmental performance that can lead to sustainability.

Water dependency of power plants undermines energy security by making power generation susceptible to water scarcity. This study evaluates the economic performance of a novel dry-cooling system for a water-independent solar power plant. The proposed cooling system is based on the concept of earth–air heat exchangers, approaching zero environmental impact. The viability of the proposed design is discussed based on both costs and benefits, and it is compared to both conventional dry- and wet-cooling systems. The installation costs of the plant are found to be EUR 13,728/kW, resulting in the substantial levelized cost of electricity of EUR 505.97/MWh. The net present value of the studied design assuming a water-cost saving of EUR 1/m3 is found to be MEUR –139.59. Significantly higher water prices in the future might eventually make the proposed system economically attractive when compared to water-cooling systems. However, the new system would require drastic modifications to become more attractive when compared to existing dry-cooling systems. Specific possibilities to improve it for zero-water use in thermoelectric power plants are further discussed.

Utilizing rooftops as a solar power plant system on the grid can be an effective and efficient solution to reduce electricity bills. This research aims to design and analyze the potential of 1215 Wp solar power plant rooftop with on grid system household scale in terms of techno economy. Using each of the two alternatives to the main components of solar panels and inverters, there were 4 variations of the component configuration design in this study. Variation 1 uses Canadian solar panels with solax inverters. Variation 2 uses Canadian solar panels with so far inverters. Variation 3 uses risen solar panels with solax inverters. Variation 4 uses risen solar panels with sofar inverter. Through PVSyst 6.43 software, with an average radiation average of 5.48 kWh/m2/day, the potential energy production of each variation of 1215 Wp rooftop solar power plant household scale are 1873 kWh, 1893 kWh, 1865 kWh and 1885 kWh. The investment cost of 1215 Wp rooftop solar power plant ranges from IDR25,220,000-IDR27,020,000 with Net Present Value ranges from IDR15,309,805- IDR17,421,839, Benefit Cost Ratio ranges from 1,489-1,588, Payback period ranges from 10.38 – 11.02 years and Internal Rate of Return value ranges from 8.8-9.56%.

It is the 21st century and scientists say that by the end of this century, resources will be replenished and the only way the future generations can access energy is through renewable resources— those which are inexhaustible. One such source is sunlight, which has a guaranteed stay in the long run. The energy thus given is termed as solar energy. In the present paper it is tried to solve the issue of limited resources and their adverse effects. Since the power generated from solar energy systems is highly variable, due to its dependence on meteorological conditions, an efficient method of usage of this fluctuating but precious energy source has to come in picture. This requires the scope of reliable forecast information as the development of predictive control algorithms for efficient energy management and monitoring for residential grid connected photovoltaic systems. The paper has given an overview of different applications and models for solar irradiance and photovoltaic power prediction, including time series models based on live measured data from rooftop solar power plant located at 17.5203° N, 78.3674° E. For experimentation, data collected over four years from the solar power plant was used in order to the train machine and understand the characteristics of the solar power plant and gives the predicted energy as the result. The use of Deep Learning is done where LSTM is used for the training and keras and tensorflow are used for obtaining the result. The mean square error thus obtained is 0.015.
