A new species, Phytoseius feresi Demite & Cavalcante sp. nov. (Acari: Mesostigmata: Phytoseiidae) is described and illustrated based on adult females. It was found in association with plants in natural vegetation in Itacoatiara, Amazonas state, Brazil. This new species is a member of the purseglovei species group and differs of all other species of this group by possessing all dorsal setae, except Z5, and the ventral seta JV5 smooth. We propose a redefinition of purseglovei species group in order to include the new species. In addition, a key to world species of purseglovei species group is provided.

A new species, Phytoscutus moraesi n. sp., is described based on specimens collected on Arecaceae plants, in Amazonas state, Brazil. Phytoscutus moraesi n. sp. is included in the sexpilis species group Chant & McMurtry, which is herein redefined to accommodate this new species. A key is provided for the world species of Phytoscutus.

The present work provides descriptions of a new species of mite, Centrouropoda bahariyaensis n. sp. (Uropodidae), based on the adult female and male collected from the red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Oliver) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and its habitat at El-Bawiti, Bahariya Oasis, Egypt. Complete descriptions of the immature stages are included. Keys to the known species of genus Centrouropoda Berlese based on adult females, adult males and deutonymphs are provided.

A new species of the genus Aethiophenax Mahunka, 1981 (Acari: Prostigmata: Acarophenacidae), A. mycetophagi Arjomandi and Hajiqanbar sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on adult females. Mites were collected from the beneath elytra of hairy fungus beetles, Mycetophagus quadripustulatus (Linnaeus, 1761) (Col.: Tenebrionoidea: Mycetophagidae) grazing on oyster mushrooms on a bough of a tree in Mazandaran province, northern Iran. The new species, as fourth representative of the genus, is characterized by all dorsal setae thin and relatively long (26–35) in comparison with those of congeners; all ventral setae thin, setae 2a longest and 1b shortest of venter of idiosoma; tibiotarsus I with solenidion φ slightly clavate and as long as ω; tarsi II with seta pl” modified and spine-like; genu III with two setae (l’ and v’). A key to the world species of the genus is also provided.

The simplex species group is described on a worldwide basis. There are six species in the group as presently conceived, including a new species: Typhlodromus arzakanicus (Arutunjan), T. calabriae (Ragusa &Swirski), T. carmonae n. sp., T. peculiaris Kolodochka, T. simplex (Chant), and T. subsimplex (Arutunjan). A brief introduction to the various generic concepts of different authors is given in relation to the species which belong to the simplex group, and the basic characters of the group are outlined. A key to adult females is provided and morphological descriptions of the six species are given. Descriptions of the three species which we were unable to examine are based on the original descriptions and illustrations.

AbstractA revised diagnosis of the genus Saldula Van Duzee based upon synapomorphic characters of male genitalia and hemelytral pigmentation patterns is given. According to this concept ca. 55% of the species World-wide currently assigned to Saldula will have to be transferred to other genera. Several new characters are employed in the definition of species and species groups. The species attributable to the pallipes species group are listed and supplemented by a brief overview of the taxonomic relationships of the Old World species. Saldula luteola sp. n. is described from coastal salt marshes on the Island of Djerba, Tunisia. It mainly appears in extremely depigmented morphs unparalleled elsewhere in the Saldidae and likely constitutes a sister-species of S. sardoa Filippi. The conspicuous intraspecific variation in body size and hemelytral pigmentation in S. palustris (Douglas), the closest relative of the former species, is depicted and briefly discussed. The descriptive accounts are accompanied by numerous photographic illustrations of somatic and genital characters.

Multidentorhodacarus tocantinensis sp. nov. is described based on the morphology of adult females collected from litter and soil in the Cerrado biome of the State of Tocantins, north of Brazil. The holotype and paratypes of M. squamosus Karg, 2000 were examined, given that this species was also found in this study, and complementary morphological information about it is provided. A key for the separation of females of the 20 recognizable world species of Multidentorhodacarus Karg is provided.

A new species, Neocypholaelaps geonomae n. sp., is described based on the morphology of adult females and males collected on Geonoma spp. (Arecaceae) in southeastern Brazil. This is the first species of this genus identified from the American continent. A key to the world species of Neocypholaelaps is provided.

A new species of Hyphessobrycon Durbin from the Paraná do Urariá system in Central Amazon region, Amazonas state, Brazil, is described. The new species is allocated into the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus species-group due to its color pattern, composed by a well-defined, horizontally elongated humeral blotch continuous with a conspicuous midlateral dark stripe that becomes blurred towards the caudal peduncle, and can be distinguished from all other species of the group by possessing humeral blotch and continuous midlateral stripe broad, occupying vertical height equivalent of two scale rows. A tricolored pattern composed dorsally by a red or reddish longitudinal stripe, a middle iridescent, golden or silvery longitudinal stripe, and ventrally by a variably-developed longitudinal dark stripe is identified as a putative additional character shared by the species of the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus species-group. The presence of bony hooks in all fins in mature males of some species of the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus species-group is also discussed.
