A new Oligocene fern of Dryopteridaceae from the Českéstředohoří Mts (Czech Republic)

A new palaeobotanical site was recovered at artificial excavations within the city district of Ústí nad Labem called Mojžíř in northern Bohemia (Czech Republic) that yielded slabs of Oligocene tephritic pyroclastic rocks with plant impressions. The fossiliferous layer belongs to the Děčín Formation of the České středohoří Mts. dated to the Oligocene (30.8–24.7 Ma). One of the recovered fossils belongs to a new leptosporangiate fern matching modern representatives of Polystichum Roth (Dryopteridaceae Herter). These frond fragments are partly fertile and allow studying the position of sori and details of indusia and spores. This fossil fern is described here as a new species of Polystichum, P. pacltovae Kvaček sp. nov., which matches the modern European species of Polystichum, namely Polystichum braunii (Spenner) Fée . Accompanying plant fossils include another fern frond described as "Aspidium "elongatum Heer (non Swartz) of unknown affinities, fragmentary needles assigned to Pinus cf. hepios (Unger) Unger of the Pinaceae and leaf impressions of Betulaceae comparable to Betula brongniartii Ettingshausen.

A new species of Delia Robineau-Desvoidy is described from Europe (Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Czech Republic) by the name of D. coarctoides. It is very similar to and has been confused with the wheat bulb fly, D. coarctata (Fallén), a well known anthomyiid pest species of cereals and grasses in Europe. A brief overview of the D. coarctata species group and a key to males and females are given.

Amanita vladimirii, a new species in sect. Vaginatae, is described and illustrated based on collections from the Czech Republic and France. The distinctive sequences of the LSU, ITS and tef1-α genetic markers, support the status of A. vladimirii as a new species. Amanita vladimirii is characterised by a greyish pileus striate at margin, a whitish stipe; and a relatively thin, but firm, membranous volva which is externally white with brownish yellow tinges where touched and internally is white-beige or greyish beige. Microscopically, the universal veil is composed of 3 layers; globose basidiospores; a ramose subhymenium; lamellar trama reduced to a mediostratum composed of parallel elements and a pileipellis without a differentiated subpellis.

The small Microgastrinae genus Venanides is recorded from Europe (Netherlands, Germany and Czech Republic) for the first time, where one species, Venanides carcinae sp. nov., described here, proves to be a regular solitary parasitoid of Carcina quercana. Outline notes on its biology, phenology and abundance are given.

During the investigation of fungal microbiome associated with boxwood in the Czech Republic, samples from Buxus sempervirens L. (Buxaceae) plants were collected and used for isolation. Two fungal strains were proposed as a new species Pyrenochaetopsis kuksensis based on morphology as well as phylogenetic analyses of ITS, LSU, rpb2, and tub2 sequence data. Detailed descriptions and phylogenetic relationships of the new taxon are provided.

AbstractThe type material of most European nominal species previously placed in Rhoptromeris and of some other species is studied. Notes are given on the type material, 10 lectotypes are designated and the identity of the species is discussed. Three valid Rhoptromeris species are found: R. heptoma (Hartig) [type species], R. villosa (Hartig) and R. rufiventris (Giraud) n.comb. The latter is the type species of Hexamerocera Kieffer which is synonymized with Rhoptromeris. The genus Rhoptromeris is described and compared with related genera. The three species found to be valid are figured and redescribed, and also a new species, R. nigriventris, is described from Sweden. R. heptoma is an important parasitoid of Oscinella frit (L.) (Dipt.: Chloropidae).
