A latex agglutination test was evaluated as a method for detection and titration of antiplague antibodies. Slide and microtiter techniques using polystyrene latex particles coated with specific fraction-I-antigen of Yersinia pestis were found to be comparable in specificity and sensitivity to serological tests commonly used in laboratory practice. The latex agglutination titers correlated well with those measured by the World Health Organization standard method of indirect hemagglutination, although there was a tendency for the former to be a little lower than the latter. With further study, the latex agglutination test may have application in the seroinvestigation of plague infection in rodents.

SummaryThis publication describes the results obtained by treatment of haemophiliacs with factor VIII preparations isolated from Cohn fraction I by use of tannic acid, FI-O-Ta.The authors stress the rapidity of the disappearance of factor VIII after injection. Transfusions are generally well tolerated. One reaction of the pyrogen type has been observed and also a case of activation of the fibrinolytic system.A second purification method by means of chromatography on DEAE-cellulose is described.

Abstract In order to determine the influence of intensive horticulture on the amount of lead and its fraction contents, there were selected soil profiles from following objects to be researched: house gardens and allotment gardens from town areas and arable field on the outskirts of the town. It has not been determined that there is any influence of manner usage on total lead content as well as its distribution in soil profiles. The fractionation composition has created the following series: fraction IV > fraction III > fraction II > fraction I. The manner of usage has influenced the content and distribution the III fraction of lead connected with organic matter. Humus horizons of garden soils is characterized as the highest in its content.

The dependence of the equivalent conductivity on the temperature and composition of the Ca(NO3)2-CaI2-H2O system was studied. The ionic fraction [I-]/([I-] + [NO-3]) was changed from 0.1 to 0.5, the mole fraction of calcium salts (assumed in anhydrous form in the presence of free water molecules) was 0.075-0.200. The equivalent conductivity was found to be a linear function of the ionic fraction at constant temperature and salt concentration.
