The dependence of the dipole characteristics on the isotopic substitution were discussed in the present work. On the bases of operator perturbation theory and group theory analytical relations for six effective dipole moment parameters (${}^{a_i}\mu_1$, ${}^{a_i}\mu_4$, ${}^{a_i}\mu_5$, ${}^{a_i}\mu_9$, ${}^{a_i}\mu_{12}$ и ${}^{a_i}\mu_{14}$) were obtained for the first time in case of asymmetric substitution XYZ$\leftarrow$XY$_2$ . Relations which connect equilibrium dipole moment and first derivatives of the dipole moment of "mother" molecule with corresponding parameters of isotopic substituted species were derived for the first time. The quantitative calculation of the effective dipole moment parameters for ${}^{32}$S${}^{16}$O$_{2}{}$, ${}^{34}$S$^{16}$O$_{2}$, ${}^{32}$S$^{18}$O$_{2}$ and ${}^{32}$S${}^{16}$O${}^{18}$O molecules was performed.

In a study of the properties of hydrogen on tungsten by the method of contact potentials the following points have been established:(1) The contact potential of a 92% covered surface of hydrogen on tungsten against bare tungsten is 1·04 V., and the Richardson constants for such a surface are, approximately,A = 30, b = 5·60 V.(2) A film of deuterium is 20 m V. positive relative to a similar hydrogen film.(3) Over the range of temperatures and pressures used by Bryce in a study of the production of atomic hydrogen the films are nearly saturated, so that the production of atomic hydrogen is primarily due to a molecule striking a bare tungsten atom, one atom being adsorbed and the other going into the gas phase.(4)The condensation coefficient for hydrogen molecules on cold tungsten is 0·01.(5) The effective dipole moment of each hydrogen atom on the surface is −0·42 Debye unit and is independent of the fraction of the surface covered.

Abstract The microwave rotational spectra of five isotopic species of the molecule methyl thiocyanate, CH3SCN, have been observed in the region between 7 and 33 GHz. From the rotational constants of these and two other species whose spectra were previously known a complete rs-structure of the molecule could be determined which is compared with several r0-structures obtained subject to certain assumptions. The dipole moment components μa and μb could be determined inclusive of relative sign. The 14N quadrupole coupling tensor, complete with the only non-vanishing non-diagonal element χab, could be evaluated from the HFS of the lines and its change upon isotopic substitution.
