Recent BaBar results on rare B decays involving flavor changing neutral currents are presented. New measurements of the CP asymmetries in b→sγ and B→K*γ decays are reported as well as B→K(*)l+l- and b→sl+l- branching ratio measurements. The data sample comprises [Formula: see text] decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring.

If the fourth generation fermions exist, the new quarks could influence the branching ratios of the decays of B→Xsγ and B→Xsl+l-. We obtain two solutions of the fourth generation CKM factor [Formula: see text] from the decay of B→ Xsγ. We use these two solutions to calculate the new contributions of the fourth generation quark to Wilson coefficients of the decay of B→ Xsl+l-. The branching ratio and the forward–backward asymmetry of the decay of B→ Xsl+l- in the two cases are calculated. Our results are quite different from that of SM in one case, almost the same in another case. If Nature chooses the former, the B meson decays could provide a possible test of the fourth generation existence.

We have investigated radiative B meson decays with the CLEO detector. An updated result on the branching fraction ℬ(b→sγ)=(3.15±0.35±0.32 ±0.26)×10-4 is reported. We report on a search for CP asymmetry in b→sγ decays, determining that -0.27<ACP<+0.010 at 90% CL. The measurement of the branching fraction for the exclusive mode B→K*(892)γ has been updated with a value of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] and a first measurement of [Formula: see text] is reported with a value of [Formula: see text]. A search for CP asymmetry in B→K*(892)γ decays yields a measurement of ACP=+0.08±0.13±0.03. We find no significant evidence for the decays B→(ρ/ω)γ and we limit ℬ(B →(ρ/ω)γ)/ℬ(B→K*(892)γ)<0.32 at 90% CL. In addition we find no evidence for the non-penguin decays B0→ϕγ and B0→D*0γ.

A possibility is considered of explaining the low experimental value of the ratio of the lifetimes τ(Λb)/τ (Bd) by a new "centiweak" four-quark interaction, i.e. with a strength on the order of 10-2GF. It is noted that the considered interaction can also improve agreement with the data on low semileptonic branching ratio B sl (B) in B meson decays with a simultaneous slight decrease in the prediction for the average charm yield in those decays. The proposed new interaction modifies within the present experimental limits the predictions for differences of lifetimes among B mesons, and can thus be probed by more precise data on these differences. A sample model is briefly discussed, where the new interaction arises through a weak SU(2) singlet scalar field with quantum numbers of a diquark.

Using perturbative QCD within the framework of Szczepaniak et al. (1990), we analyse different non-leptonic B decays, namely B → Π Π , B → Π (K)D, B → DD, as heavy-to-light transitions dominated by tree diagrams and compare our estimates to experimental data and other theoretical model predictions.
