Diagnosis of non-specific aorto-arteritis (NSAA, Takaysu's arteritis) is typically based on clinical and investigational parameters. We report here about two patients with clinically suspected diagnosis of a Takayasu's arteritis already under anti-inflammatory therapy in whom percutaneous transluminal atherectomy of subclavian and axillary artery stenoses was performed to relief the patients from symptoms – intermittent dyspraxia of the arms – and to verify the clinical diagnosis by histology. In the first case aorto-arteritis could be histologically confirmed through the analysis of plaque material including media structures excised from the subclavian and axillary arteries using a new device for atherectomy. The biopsy showed diffuse inflammation and granulomatous lesions with giant cells typically for Takayasu's disease. In the second patient, biopsy showed no acute or chronic inflammatory signs but only atherosclerotic lesions. Percutaneous transluminal atherectomy is therefore not only an interventional but also a diagnostic tool and should be used in every case of interventional therapy of suspected aorto-arteritis to make the clinical diagnosis and as a major consequence the initiation of an aggressive anti-inflammatory medical therapy more reliable.

Abstract The interfacial phenomena between tread rubber compounds and rough surfaces are responsible for most of the behavior of a tire on the road. A new device was developed for the investigation of these phenomena in the laboratory. The device consists of a fully instrumented road wheel on which a simple geometry specimen is driven. The possibilities offered by this device are to perform tests at constant slip or at constant torque on both wet and dry surfaces, with complex cycles. The machine allows the measurement of slip, tangential forces, and temperature on the specimen, and computer software adds the possibility of applying Fourier analyses on force, road wheel speed, and specimen speed data. Other possibilities offered by the road wheel are to change the road surface, the load on the specimen, and the water rate. The description of a complete experiment is detailed in the paper showing the correlation of data with actual tire performances.

Tobacco smoke is enormously harmful to human health, there’s no safe way to smoke. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the role of tobacco smoke compounds and their ability to damage the cardiovascular system and, in particular, to interfere with blood pressure (Brachial and radial pressure), heart rate and partly on the percentage blood Oxygen saturation. A new device has been manufactured which is unique for measuring the level of smoke, to obtained privies readings, the device had fixed to the first reference level آ and starting up from it. The effect of smoking has been studied on (26) male passive (26) active smoker volunteer, (14) female passive and (14) female active smoker participants. The results has been showed that the blood pressure and heart rate has been increased with increasing the number of cigarettes in both genders for passive and active smokers. However, this effect for male was more pronounced comparing with females for passive and active smokers. In the case of oxygen saturation concentration percentage, for males the change of oxygen concentration percentage was not stable. In other words, it was fluctuated with the number of cigarettes. But for females the oxygen concentration was decreased but not too much. This means that this effect was not pronounced. this study found آ that the most pronounced effect has been shown by male’s comparison to females for both passive and active smokers. As well as in nonsmoker’s males, the relation between heart rate and smoke level is inversely proportional. While in male and female smokers and female nonsmokers the relation is proportional. In all cases the relation between the smoke level and time of smoking is inversely proportional. Finally males& females are affected differently by tobacco use; the sensitivities to smoke for males are higher than in females for passive and active smokers in both brachial and radial blood pressure measurement.
