Economic load dispatch (ELD) problem is an important issue in the operation and control of modern control system. The ELD problem is complex and nonlinear with equality and inequality constraints which makes it hard to be efficiently solved. This paper presents a new modification of harmony search (HS) algorithm named as dynamic harmony search with polynomial mutation (DHSPM) algorithm to solve ORPD problem. In DHSPM algorithm the key parameters of HS algorithm like harmony memory considering rate (HMCR) and pitch adjusting rate (PAR) are changed dynamically and there is no need to predefine these parameters. Additionally polynomial mutation is inserted in the updating step of HS algorithm to favor exploration and exploitation of the search space. The DHSPM algorithm is tested with three power system cases consisting of 3, 13, and 40 thermal units. The computational results show that the DHSPM algorithm is more effective in finding better solutions than other computational intelligence based methods.

This article presents a novel improved teaching learning based optimization (I-TLBO) technique to solve economic load dispatch (ELD) problem of the thermal plant without considering transmission losses. The proposed methodology can take care of ELD problems considering practical nonlinearities such as ramp rate limit, prohibited operating zone and valve point loading. The objective of economic load dispatch is to determine the optimal power generation of the units to meet the load demand, such that the overall cost of generation is minimized, while satisfying different operational constraints. I-TLBO is a recently developed evolutionary algorithm based on two basic concepts of education namely teaching phase and learning phase. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm has been verified on test system with equality and inequality constraints. Compared with the other existing techniques demonstrates the superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Coherent phantom track generation through controlling a group of electronic combat air vehicles is currently an area of great interest to the defense agency for the purpose of deceiving a radar network. However, generating an optimal or even feasible coherent phantom trajectory in real-time is challenging due to the high dimensionality of the problem and severe geometric, as well as state, control, and control rate constraints. In this paper, the bio-inspired virtual motion camouflage based methodology, augmented with the derived early termination condition, is investigated to solve this constrained collaborative trajectory planning problem in two approaches: centralized (one optimization loop) and decentralized (two optimization loops). Specifically, in the decentralized approach, the first loop finds feasible phantom tracks based on the early termination condition and the equality and inequality constraints of the phantom track. The second loop uses the virtual motion camouflage method to solve for the optimal electronic combat air vehicle trajectories based on the feasible phantom tracks obtained in the first loop. Necessary conditions are proposed for both approaches so that the initial and final velocities of the phantom and electronic combat air vehicles are coherent. It is shown that the decentralized approach can solve the problem much faster than the centralized one, and when the decentralized approach is applied, the computational cost remains roughly the same for the cases when the number of nodes and/or the number of electronic combat air vehicles increases. It is concluded that the virtual motion camouflage based decentralized approach has promising potential for usage in real-time implementation.

Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) is an important topic in the operation of power plants which can help to build up effecting generating management plans. The ELD problem has no smooth cost function with equality and inequality constraints which make it difficult to be effectively solved. The paper presents an application of Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) to solve Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problems with smooth and non-smooth fuel cost objective functions. Main objective of ELD is to determine the most economic generating dispatch required to satisfy the predicted load demands including line losses over a certain period of time while relaxing various equality and inequality constraints. The unit Min/Max operational constraints, effects of valve-point loading ripples and line losses are considered for the practical applications. This paper describes the implementation of smooth and non smooth fuel cost function by CSA Method and its comparison with BAT method. We have used 6 and 12 bus system for calculating their total fuel cost.

This paper develops an opposition-based improved harmony search algorithm (OIHS) for solving global continuous optimization problems. The proposed method is different from the classical harmony search (HS) in three aspects. Firstly, the candidate harmony is randomly chosen from the harmony memory or opposition harmony memory was generated by opposition-based learning, which enlarged the algorithm search space. Secondly, two key control parameters, pitch adjustment rate (PAR) and bandwidth distance (bw), are adjusted dynamically with respect to the evolution of the search process. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm performs much better than the existing HS variants in terms of the solution quality and the stability.

This article aims at solving economic load dispatch (ELD) problem using two algorithms. Here in this article, an implementation of Flower Pollination (FP) and the BAT Algorithm (BA) based optimization search algorithm method is applied. More than one objective is hoped to be achieve in this article. The combined economic emission dispatch (CEED) problem which considers environmental impacts as well as the cost is also solved using the two algorithms. Practical problems in economic dispatch (ED) include both nonsmooth cost functions having equality and inequality constraints which make it difficult to find the global optimal solution using any mathematical optimization. In this article, the ELD problem is expressed as a nonlinear constrained optimization problem which includes equality and inequality constraints. The attainability of the discussed methods is shown for four different systems with emission and without emission and the results achieved with FP and BAT algorithms are matched with other optimization techniques. The experimental results show that conferred Flower Pollination Algorithm (FPA) outlasts other techniques in finding better solutions proficiently in ELD problems.
