According to the literature, the occurrence of the decapodCyrtograpsus angulatusDana, 1851 (Brachyura, Varunidae), has been reported for the Atlantic Patagonian coast north of 53°S, and along the Pacific coast north of 37°S. The species inhabits muddy bottoms, mainly in estuaries and protected bays. The aim of the present study was to describe the presence ofC. angulatusin stomach contents of littoral fishes, i.e., of the speciesEleginops maclovinus(Cuvier, 1830) collected in the bay of Puerto Cisnes (44°S, Chile) in the summer of 2017. The results revealed thatC. angulatuscan be the main or even practically the exclusive prey forE. maclovinus, and can be directly related with individual weight fish. The presence ofC. angulatusas a practically exclusive component in the stomach contents of the fish, would indicate thatE. maclovinusis an opportunistic predator, and it would apparently predate only onC. angulatus, considering the dominance of the crab in the ecosystem studied.

The Pacific sharpnose shark Rhizoprionodon longurio is caught seasonally by inshore artisanal fisheries in the Mexican Pacific. Our study focuses on the feeding ecology of this shark species in the southern Gulf of California. The prey species obtained from stomach contents were identified and quantified, and variations between sexes and maturity stages were determined. A total of 98 stomachs were analysed during two periods (2000–2001 and 2003–2004); 64% of stomachs contained food. The trophic spectrum was composed of four cephalopod species, three crustacean species, and 13 pelagic and benthic fish species. According to the index of relative importance (%IRI), the fish Echiophis brunneus (IRI = 14.4%), Opisthopterus dovii (IRI = 12.2%) and Scomber japonicus (IRI = 9.6%) were the main prey items. Based on diversity values, IRI values and diet breadth, R. longurio is an opportunistic predator. The trophic position of R. longurio was above four in all categories, which indicates that this shark is a tertiary consumer.

Mature chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) were caught in bottom trawls off lwate Prefecture, northern Japan, in autumn. To document the incidence and depth distribution of these catches, records were kept of salmon caught by five trawlers that fished along the Pacific coast of northern Honshu during September–December 1986. During this period, 4337 chum salmon were caught at bottom depths ranging from 150 to 460 m with most taken from 200 to 350 m. Gonads and stomach contents were examined for 100 of these salmon. All were mature and close to spawning. Thirty-nine of the 100 stomachs examined were empty and the remaining 61 contained only a small quantity of food, averaging 2.4 g. Chum salmon may move at these depths to avoid the high temperatures of surface waters (12–20 °C) found in this area and to follow temperatures close to their thermal preferendum (3–11 °C) which are found near bottom. This phenomenon appears to be an adaptation of chum salmon near the southern limit of their range.
