Two new Peruvian species of Paravelia (Heteropera: Veliidae) from water-filled bamboo internodes, and distributional notes for other Paravelia species

Two new species of Paravelia – P. loutoni and P. reclusa – are described from water-filled bamboo internodes in the forests of eastern Peru. Color dorsal habitus photographs of both species and line drawings of key male genitalic characters are provided, accompanied by a distribution map. Line drawings of the male genitalic structures of P. myersi Hungerford, the closest putative relative to these two new species, are also provided for comparison. Although Neotropical Veliidae have been previously reported from bromeliad phytotelmata, the current results from bamboo internodes are the first records for veliid utilization of this habitat in the Western Hemisphere, and indicate that further samples from such habitats are likely to result in the discovery of other heretofore undetected veliid species. New records are also provided for 12 other previously described Paravelia species; the new records serve to clarify the geographic ranges and ecological preferences of these taxa.

Two taxa of Amomum (Zingiberaceae), Amomum erythranthum and Amomum ampliflorum, from Putao, Kachin State of Northern Myanmar are described and illustrated as new to science. Amomum erythranthum is morphologically similar to A. subulatum and A. nimkeyense in having similar yellow flowers, but can be distinguished by its reddish floral tube, red anther connective, red and pubescent fruit. Amomum ampliflorum is similar to A. maximum, A. dealbatum and A. odontocarpum in white flower, but differs in its longer inflorescence and much larger flower. Two species, Amomum pauciflorum and Wurfbainia microcarpum are recorded for the flora of Myanmar for the first time. Data on ecology, phenology, distribution, conservation status, similarities to the related taxa, as well as colour photographs and line drawings of the type, and voucher specimens are provided for all reported taxa.

The new erigoninae genus Yuelushannus gen. nov. with two new species, Y. alatus sp. nov. (♂♀) and Y. barbatus sp. nov. (♂♀), are described from Hunan and Hubei Provinces. Detailed descriptions of somatic features and genitalic characters, photos of the habitus and copulatory organs, line drawings of copulatory organs and a distribution map are provided.

A sample of ca. 130 specimens from the Collection of Strepsiptera of the National Institute for Amazon Research (INPA) contained species in four families: Corioxenidae, Bohartillidae, Myrmecolacidae, and Halictophagidae. First results of the study of that sample are presented with descriptions of two new species of Halictophagidae: Halictophagus urucui sp. n. and Coriophagus jennyae sp. n. The latter species is the first record of Coriophagus in the Western Hemisphere; the genus distribution had been limited so far to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Solomon Islands. These new records contribute to an expanded view of the biodiversity of the Strepsiptera fauna in the Brazilian Amazon Basin.

The ant genusSphinctomyrmexhas been represented in the Neotropical Region until now by a single species,S. stali, known only from sparse localities in southeastern Brazil. Two new neotropical species are herein described,S. marcoyisp. n. andS. schoerederisp. n. from workers collected in the Brazilian Amazon and Atlantic Forest, respectively. New records forSphinctomyrmex staliare presented, and the species is redescribed together with discussions on its high morphological variation and the identity of its type specimen. A key for the neotropicalSphinctomyrmexworkers, images of all species presently known, and a distribution map are supplied.

Two new species of the Neotropical genus Leinendera Carrera, 1945, Leinendera carrerai sp. n. and Leinendera mnrj sp. n., and the female of Leinendera achaeta Camargo, Vieira, Köhler & Rafael, 2016 are described from Brazil. The habitus, wing, male terminalia and female terminalia for the latter species are described and illustrated. The female terminalia of Leinendera rubra Carrera, 1945 is also illustrated. An identification key for the five Leinendera species and a distribution map with new records are provided.

The species of the water scavenger beetle genus Laccobius Erichson, 1837 occuring in China are reviewed. Two new species are described: Laccobius (Glyptolaccobius) qinlingensis sp. nov. (Shaanxi) and L. (Cyclolaccobius) hainanensis sp. nov. (Hainan). Five species are recorded for the first time: Laccobius (Dimorpholaccobius) bipunctatus (Fabricius, 1775), L. (D.) striatulus (Fabricius, 1801) and L. (Compsolaccobius) pallidissimus Reitter, 1899 (all from Xinjiang), L. (Microlaccobius) tonkinensis Gentili, 1979 (Shaanxi), and L. (Compsolaccobius) decorus (Gyllenhal, 1827) (Qinghai). Additional faunistic data from China are provided for the following species: L. (Cyclolaccobius) hingstoni Orchymont, 1926, L. Two new species of Ocyochterus are described, O. graziae from Ecuador, and O. gilloglyi from Panama, and compared to the other two Andean species previously known in the genus. Dorsal habitus and anterior head photos are provided for all described species of Ocyochterus, and photomicrographs are provided for the male genitalic structures of O. graziae and O. gilloglyi. A distribution map is provided for all species in the genus.

Margyricarpus pinnatus is a poorly understood entity from natural grasslands of South America that it better considered as a species complex. In this work we contribute to the advancement of the taxonomic knowledge of this challenging species complex by describing two new species of Margyricarpus from southern Brazil. We present field photographs, illustrations, a distribution map and ecologic and conservation notes on the new species.
