The Atlantic Forest is a biodiversity hotspot that includes different types of phytophysiognomies, mainly forests. Hornschuchia, Annonaceae, is one of its endemic genera. Eight Hornschuchia species are found in the tropical moist forest, three of them both occurring in tropical moist forest and tabuleiro forest, a semideciduous seasonal forest, one occurs in the coastal semideciduous seasonal forest and two inhabit the semideciduous seasonal forest and deciduous seasonal forest far from the coast in Bahia. Here we describe the twelfth species of Hornschuchia, which occurs in the Bahian semideciduous seasonal forest, and present a morphological description, illustration, distribution map and assessment of its conservation status.

A new species, Calea arachnoidea, which belongs to Calea sect. Meyeria, is hereby described and illustrated. This species occurs in the Serra Negra region, located in the southern portion of the “Zona da Mata” in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Calea arachnoidea resembles C. quadrifolia, C. heteropappa and C. semirii, and its relationships with these species are discussed and an identification key for the species of C. sect. Meyeria in the state of Minas Gerais is provided. Additionally, photographs, a distribution map, comments about habitat and conservation status are provided.

Phylogenetic studies indicate that several infrageneric taxa in Oxalis require taxonomic updates to attain monophyly. In this contribution, we update the morphological delimitation of the South American Oxalis sect. Ripariae and provide a taxonomic revision of the currently accepted species. The sectional delimitation was carried out by comparing micro- and macromorphological features of Oxalis sect. Ripariae, O. sect. Corniculatae, and O. sect. Myriophyllum. These sections share yellow flowers and aerial stems. Glandular hairs and larger seeds with the surface longitudinally crested and with projections are exclusive to Oxalis sect. Ripariae. We accept 11 species in the section, including three previously placed in Oxalis sect. Corniculatae (i.e., O. eriocarpa, O. niederleinii, and O. refracta), but excluding O. serpens and O. subvillosa, which are moved to O. sect. Corniculatae. We also describe a new species (Oxalis lourteiginana), propose a new name and status for O. bifrons subsp. littoralis (now O. pampeana), the synonymization of O. irreperta with O. riparia, six second-step lectotypifications, and one epitypification. For each accepted species we provide a morphological description, illustrations, ecological and taxonomic information, conservation status following IUCN, and a geographic distribution map. Most species occur in southern Brazil, but the section is widespread also in Argentina, Uruguay, and eastern Paraguay. Six species are categorized as threatened and further three as near threatened. Besides, we provide an identification key for the taxa of the section.

Myrcia adulterina, a new species from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, is here described, illustrated and compared with morphologically related species. Additionally, its distribution map and a preliminary conservation status are presented. The new species is here inferred as belonging to Myrcia sect. Reticulosae due its leaves with raised venation, staminal ring densely pilose, hypanthium prolonged in a tube with glabrous inner walls and 3-locular ovaries. Within this section, the species is morphologically related to Myrcia pubipetala, from which it can be distinguished through the laxly reticulate leaf venation and thyrsoid inflorescences with all axes strongly flattened and striated when dry. Myrcia adulterina was misidentified during at least 15 years in herbaria under the name Marlierea tomentosa (currently synonym of Myrcia strigipes, a species belonging to Myrcia sect. Aulomyrcia), which is also morphologically similar. A brief discussion clarifying the morphological differences between these species is also presented.

A new species, Myrcia suberosa, is here proposed based in an ongoing taxonomic revision of Myrcia sect. Eugeniopsis, a group nearly endemic to the Atlantic Forest. Myrcia suberosa occurs in Brazil from Southern Bahia to Southern Rio de Janeiro states, but only three collections are known and the real distribution of the species is barely known. The new species is morphologically related to Myrcia pseudomarlierea and Myrcia teuscheriana, differing by sexual system, cork thickness, indument, and leaf and flower morphologies. Morphological description, images and conservation status are provided, as well as discussion about distribution, habitat, phenology and taxonomy.

Schinus pampeana is a new species from Brazilian Pampa. The new species was tentatively included in Schinus sect. Terebinthifolia, and is morphologically most similar to Schinus lentiscifolia and S. weinmanniifolia. We present here a detailed morphological description, a geographical distribution map, IUCN conservation status assessment, ecological data, photographs, and a table of diagnostic characters of S. pampeana and the most similar species. Schinus pampeana increases the total number of Schinus to about 49 species, of which eleven are recorded in Brazil.

Abstract—Merostachys delicatula, a new species recorded thus far only from the montane Atlantic forest of southern Bahia, is described and illustrated here. Comments on its taxonomy, distribution, habitat, and phenology are presented. Among the narrow-leaved congeners occurring in Bahia, the new species is most similar to M. leptophylla. It is distinguished by having internodes glabrous to scabrous (vs. glabrous in M. leptophylla); internodes with an infranodal band of trichomes (vs. absent); culm leaf sheaths abaxially scabrous (vs. glabrous); upper glumes 1.2‐2.1 mm wide (vs. 3.5‐4 mm); anthecia dull (vs. shiny); lemmas 1.5‐2.7 mm wide, abaxially pubescent (vs. ca. 4 mm, glabrous); and paleas 1.2‐2.3 mm wide (vs. ca. 4 mm). We also provide an assessment of the conservation status of the new species and a geographic distribution map for both species.

Baccharis rectialata (Compositae: Astereae), a new species of B. sect. Caulopterae from the grasslands in northeastern Uruguay is described. The new species is morphologically similar to B. crispa and can be differentiated by its straight wing margins, shorter involucres and pappus in staminate capitula. We provide a detailed morphological description, and information on the distribution, habitat, phenology, and conservation status. Additionally, we discuss the main differences between B. rectialata and other closely related and morphologically similar species, and provide a key for identification of subshrubs belonging to B. sect. Caulopterae occurring in Uruguay, as well as illustrations, images, and a distribution map of the new species.

A new species of Lippia endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest is described and illustrated. Lippia diversifolia is currently known from the inselbergs of Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro and is characterized by markedly tetragonal branches, of which the opposed sides are densely strigose and the other glabrescent, with indument alternating in the subsequent internode, leaf blade cartaceous to coriaceous, adaxial surface strigose, abaxial surface tomentose or strigose, peduncle 3.5–9 cm long, bracts strigose with apex acute, inconspicuous calyx, and white sessile glands along the whole plant. We provide field photographs, distribution map, conservation status and a table with the main characters that distinguish it from Lippia rubella, which is a morphologically similar species.

Scoparia is a genus comprising ten species distributed mainly in the grasslands of southern Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay. Based on field surveys, study of nomenclatural types and other specimens, and review of literature we found an interesting new species of Scoparia from southern region of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and Department of Cerro Largo, northeast Uruguay. Described here as S. pentapetala. This work provides a detailed morphological description of the new species, information on geographic distribution, habitat, phenology, conservation status and, discusses the main differences between S. pentapetala and the morphologically most similar species. Illustrations, images and a distribution map are also supplied.

Clusia heterocolorata is described, illustrated, its diagnostic characteristics, morphological affinities, and conservation status are discussed, and a geographical distribution map is presented. This new species belongs to the section Phloianthera, characterized by a dome-shaped androecium with numerous resiniferous stamens and staminodes.
