We describe a new species of the gekkonid genus Cyrtodactylus based on a series of six specimens from the Chamba Valley in the Western Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh state, India. Cyrtodactylus chamba sp. nov. is a member of the subgenus Siwaligekko and can be diagnosed from congeners in the Western Himalayas by a combination of its small size (snout to vent length up to 63 mm), a continuous series of five precloacal pores on males, 13–15 rows of dorsal tubercles, 33–43 scales across the belly, no regular series of enlarged subcaudals, and a dorsal colour pattern of 5–7 irregular, broad, dark bands with much narrower, light interspaces. The new species is 14% divergent in ND2 sequence from the most similar sampled congener, Cyrtodactylus (Siwaligekko) himalayanus from Jammu and Kashmir, and is 0.5–1.1% divergent in nuclear sequence data from sampled Siwaligekko species. Many more undiscovered Cyrtodactylus species probably exist across the Himalayas at elevations below ~2000 m; basic field surveys for reptiles and other poorly known groups and examination of existing material should be a priority if we are to appreciate the true diversity of this spectacular mountainous landscape.

New records of water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from Malaysia are presented. Three species new to science, Torrenticola haliki, Monatractides cameronensis and Atractides cameronensis are described; first records are given for Monatractides parviventris (K. Viets, 1935) and M. roseus (Lundblad, 1941).

New records of water mites of the genus Atractides Koch, 1837 (Acari: Hydrachnidia, Hygrobatidae) from Thailand, Malaysia and Sulawesi are presented. Four species new to science, Atractides siamis, A. malayensis, A. tahanensis and A. sulawesiensis, are described; a first description of the male is given for Atractides putihi Wiles, 1991; a first description of the female is given for Atractides tenuipalpis Lundblad, 1969 and A. incertus Lundblad, 1969; two subspecies are elevated to species rank (with their former stem species in parentheses): A. substriatus Lundblad, 1969 (incertus), A. cognatus (K. Viets, 1935) (spatiosus); first records are given for Atractides incertus Lundblad, 1969 (Thailand), A. schwoerbeli Lundblad, 1969 (Thailand, Malaysia), A. tenuipalpis Lundblad, 1969 (Thailand), A. cognatus (K. Viets, 1935) (Thailand) and A. putihi Wiles, 1991 (Thailand).

Three new water mite (Acari: Hydrachnidia) species are described from Tasmania, Tasmanobates separatus sp. nov., Procorticacarus karanovici sp. nov. and Guineaxonopsis tasmanica sp. nov. The material was collected in 2008 during a biological survey by Tom and Ivana Karanović (Hobart, Tasmania) from surface and interstitial waters of Tasmania. Moreover, a detailed description of Litarachna cf. amnicola Cook, 1986 is given.

New records of water mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia) from the standing waters of Sri Lanka are presented. Fifteen species have been registrated, among them four species, i.e. Piona srilankana (Pionidae), Neumania edytae (Unionicolidae), Krendowskia (Krendowskiella) srilankana (Krendowskiidae), and Mideopsis ewelinae (Mideopsidae) are described as new to science. DNA was extracted from 18 water mite specimens and DNA barcodes are given for the first time for nine species.

A survey is given of the distribution of the water mite species of the genus Sperchon Kramer (Acari: Hydrachnidia: Sperchontidae) in Turkey, based on all published data and numerous new records. Sperchon (Hispidosperchon) oezkani and S. (Sperchon) ayyildizi are described as new species; Sperchon fundamentalis Bader & Sepasgozarian, 1980 is synonymized with S. glandulosus Koenike, 1886; the first record from Turkey is given for Sperchon (Hispidosperchon) tarnogradskii Sokolow, 1927.

New information about the distribution of species of the water mite genus Feltria Koenike (Acari: Hydrachnidia, Feltriidae) in the Indian Himalayas is presented. Eight species (Feltria indica, F. tuzovskyi, F. schwoerbeli, F. himachali, F. kulluis, F. balneatoris, F. sannae and F. gereckei) are described as new to science; F. rubra Piersig, 1898 and F. longipalpis (Lundblad, 1941) are new to the Indian water mite fauna and for the latter species the first description of the female is provided.
