Leptobotia micra, new species, is described from the upper Li River (Pearl River basin) around Guilin in Guangxi province, southern China. The new species is evidently the smallest species of Leptobotia, with females of 45‒46 mm SL bearing oocytes. It can be distinguished from all other species of Leptobotia by a combination of the following characters: no dark bars or dorsal saddles on body, a row of white dots along dorsal midline, 4+34 vertebrae, a predorsal distance of 58.1‒59.0% SL, eye diameter 1.8‒2.0 % SL, pelvic fins not reaching anus, an emarginated caudal fin (length of median rays 1.3‒1.4 times in length of lower lobe) and the anus positioned distinctly closer to anal-fin origin than to pelvic-fin base.

A new species of ptereleotrine dartfish, Navigobius asayake, is described based on four specimens (45.0–52.1 mm in standard length: SL) collected from off the Satsuma Peninsula and Tanegashima island, Kagoshima, southern Japan. It is distinguished from other congeners by the following combination of characters: second dorsal-fin rays I, 18–19; anal-fin rays I, 19; pectoral-fin rays 21–22; gill rakers 5–6 + 13–15; head length 25.1–26.4% SL; eye diameter 8.6–10.0% SL; pelvic-fin length 15.2–16.1% SL; and a well-developed yellow stripe extending from behind upper part of eye to beneath first dorsal fin.

A new gobioid fish Luciogobius yubai sp. nov. is described based on specimens collected from Wakayama and Shizuoka Prefectures, Japan. This species is distinguished from congeners by the following combination of characters; second dorsal-fin I, 9, anal-fin I, 10, pectoral-fin 17 or 18, vertebrate number 16+19=35, the first space between anterior two pterygiophores of second dorsal-fin placed the neural spines of vertebrae 17–18 or 17, four to seven developed dermal flaps under the eye longitudinally, posterior part of eye ridge protruded posteriorly, pectoral-fin with a long uppermost free ray, eye diameter 7.3–10.6 % of head length, pectoral-fin length 14.4–16.9 % of standard length (SL) , second dorsal-fin length 9.7–11.8 % SL, anal-fin ray length 9.1–11.1 % SL, pelvic-fin length 7.3–10.8 % SL, head and body with brownish orange coloration when alive or fresh.

Nandus andrewi sp. nov. is described from the Ichamati River in northeastern India. It differs from all congeners in having a bluish white (vs. mottled brown) body in life, and a combination of the following characters: body depth 24.3– 29.1% SL, pectoral fin length 15.1–18.5%, pelvic fin length 16.2–18.9% SL, eye diameter 18.3–21.7% HL, a dark spot on the caudal peduncle, and 45–52 lateral-line scales. A key to the species of Nandus is also provided.

A new species of bagrid catfish, Pseudobagrus gracilis, is described from specimens collected from the Zhujiang (Pearl River) basin, southern China. It closely resembles P. adiposalis Oshima and P. ussuriensis (Dybowski), but differs in having a large elliptical eye (19.8–24.4% HL), a short maxillary barbel not reaching the posterior margin of the eye, a lightly serrated posterior edge on the second dorsal spine, a caudal fin slightly emarginated with upper lobe slighter longer than lower lobe, frontal concave with a smooth surface, and supraoccipital process short (far from the first basal bone of the dorsal spine).

Akysis bilustris, new species, is described from the Xe Kong drainage (a subdrainage of the Mekong River) in southern Laos. It is distinguished from congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: eye diameter 14.0– 17.5% HL, serrae on posterior margin of pectoral spine 2–3 and longer than half width of spine, pectoral fin reaching to or overlapping pelvic-fin base (length 24.5–29.3% SL), adipose-fin base length 14.3–18.3% SL, body depth at anus 11.4– 13.8% SL, caudal-peduncle length 19.6–23.4% SL, caudal-peduncle depth 6.7–9.2% SL, caudal fin emarginate, and vertebrae 30–31.

Altigena malihkaia, new species, is described from the Mali Hka River, a tributary of the Irrawaddy River in northern Myanmar. It is distinguished from all other species of the genus Altigena by having a combination of 45–49 lateral-line scales, 12–14 circumpeduncular scales, 17–20 pre-dorsal midline scales, wide head (96.8–138.5% HL), long postorbital length (64.6–81.0 % HL), and short dorsal-fin (length 21.9–26.2% SL).

Hemiodus langeanii, new species, is described based on 20 specimens collected in the rio Amana, a tributary of rio Maués-Açú, rio Amazonas drainage, Brazil. The new taxon can be distinguished from its congeners by its high body (27.1-35.3%, average 32.3% SL vs. 18.8-28.5% in remaining species). The new species also exhibits a large lateral dark spot that is equal to, or greater than, the eye diameter (vs. smaller in remaining species except for H. microlepis). The lack of conspicuous lateral stripe or transverse bands and the low lateral line scales count (68-74) distinguish H. langeanii from some similar species in the genus (scale counts: 94-123 in H. argenteus, 124-148 in H. microlepis, 86-99 in H. orthonops and 77-92 in H . parnaguae). Finally, the new species can be differentiated from H. unimaculatus (which overlaps in the number of lateral line scales) by the higher number of scales between the lateral line and the pelvic fin origin (9-10 vs. 4-7, respectively), which are similar sized above and below lateral line (vs. scales larger bellow the lateral line in H. unimaculatus).

Silurichthys ligneolus, a new species of silurid catfish, is described from blackwater habitats in southern Borneo. The new species can be distinguished from congeners in having a combination of: body depth at anus 9.1–11.0% SL, caudal peduncle depth 4.7–5.5% SL, eye diameter 6.7–9.8% HL, pelvic fins present, 44–45 anal-fin rays, 3–4 principal rays on the lower caudal-fin lobe, lower lobe of caudal fin indistinct, 46–48 vertebrae, one gill raker on the first branchial arch, and body uniformly brown. Based on the morphology of its caudal fin, S. ligneolus is hypothesized to be the sister taxon of S. sanguineus.

We isolated a new species, proposed here as Serendipita sacchari, from a sugarcane rhizosphere in Guangxi Province, China. This species is characterized by its unstable nucleus numbers (1–15) in its chlamydospores versus their regular distribution in hyphal cells. ITS rDNA and combined LSU+ TEF1-α sequence analyses also support the uniqueness of this new plant symbiont.

A new species of Simpsonichthys is described from the upper rio Jequitinhonha basin, Minas Gerais, eastern Brazil. It is diagnosed from all congeners by presenting an A-patterned frontal squamation. Additionally, males of the new species differs from all congeners by the color pattern of body, the color of iris, the absence of contact organs in the pectoral fin, presence of scales on anal-fin base, pectoral-fin length, caudal fin length, and eye diameter. Females of the new species can be diagnosed from remaining congeners by the pectoral-fin length. The conservation status of the new species is evaluated. Comments on the relationships of the new species within the genus Simpsonichthys are presented.
