Review of the genus Kisaura Ross 1956 (Trichoptera: Philopotamidae) from India

This paper synthesizes knowledge of caddisflies belonging to the genus Kisaura Ross 1956 from India. The study is based on collection expeditions undertaken since 2008 in streams of the Indian Himalayan region and some of its contiguous states. The species newly described here include Kisaura sangtam sp. nov. (Nagaland); K. acuta sp. nov., (Uttarakhand); and K. rotunda sp. nov. and K. teestaensis sp. nov. (both from Sikkim). Species reported for the first time from India include Kisaura longispina (Kimmins 1955) (from Uttarakhand); K. laban Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2009 (in Malicky 2009, Arunachal Pradesh); K. rossi (Kimmins 1955) (from Sikkim, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh); K. surasa Malicky & Chantaramongkol 1993 (Uttarakhand); K. filiformis Mey 1996 (from Himachal Pradesh); K. pectinata (Ross 1956) (from West Bengal); and K. intermedia (Kimmins 1955) and K. cina Malicky & Chantaramongkol 1993 (both from Arunachal Pradesh). With these additions the genus Kisaura is represented by 39 species, 35 of which have been described previously (27 described originally from India and 8 new records for India) and 4 are new species.

Taxonomic and faunistic data for seven species of the genus Amphichroum Kraatz, 1857 (Omaliinae) from the Himalayan Region and Tibet are provided. All species are (re-)described and illustrated, including two new species: A. ahrensi sp. n. from India (West Bengal) and A. telnovi sp. n. from western Nepal. A new combination is proposed for A. nepalicum (Coiffait, 1982) comb. n., originally described in the genus Arpedium Erichson, 1839. The lectotype is designated for A. anthobioides Champion, 1925. Distributional distributional maps for all covered species are provided. Amphichroum monticola Cameron, 1928 is recorded from Nepal for the first time.

Genera and species of the tribe Coelidiini from the Indian subcontinent are reviewed. Glaberana Nielson, Webbolidia Nielson and Zhangolidia Nielson are recorded from India for the first time. The genus Dolophilodes Ulmer (Trichoptera: Philopotamidae) is reviewed from India, with the description of 3 new species: D. malickyi sp. nov. and D. punjpullaensis sp. nov. from Punjpulla (Himachal Pradesh) and D. morsei sp. nov. from Lumla (Arunachal Pradesh). Dolophilodes ornatula Kimmins is reported for the first time from India. This species, D. tibetana Kimmins and D. indica Martynov are redescribed with additional collection records. A key to males of the known Indian species of this genus is provided.

The leafhoppers of the tribe Evacanthini of the Indian subcontinent (Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka) are reviewed. The genus Apphia Distant 1918, is reinstated as a valid genus from synonymy with Onukia Matsumura stat. rev. and redefined based on the male genitalia characters. The genus Angustuma Xing & Li 2013, (new name for Angustella Li 1986, not Waagen 1907) is considered a junior synonym of Apphia. The genera Carinata Li & Wang, Concavocorona Wang & Zhang, Risefronta Li & Wang, Shortcrowna Li & Li, Striatanus Li & Wang and Taperus Li and Wang along with Bundera bambusana Yang, Chen & Li, Carinata midfasciana Wang & Li, Onukia albiclypeus Li & Wang, O. flavocapitata Li & Wang and Risefronta albicincta Li & Wang are here recorded for the first time from the Sub-Himalayan region of the Indian subcontinent. Keys to genera and included species are given. The new taxa recognized are Apphia flava sp. nov. (India: Meghalaya), Bundera acutivertex sp. nov. (India: Mizoram), Concavocorana kambaiti sp. nov. (Myanmar; Kambaiti), Evacanthus albipennis sp. nov. (Nepal), E. convolutus sp. nov. (India: Himachal Pradesh), E. distinctus sp. nov. (India: Himachal Pradesh), E. manaliensis sp. nov. (India: Himachal Pradesh), E. yeshwanthi sp. nov. (India: Meghalya), Onukia echina sp. nov. (India: Manipur), Onukindia gen. nov. (type species : Platyretus connexus Distant), Onukindia aruna sp. nov. (India: Arunachal Pradesh), O. compressa sp. nov. (India: Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal), Shortcrowna rubrostriata sp. nov. (Myanmar: Kambaiti), Striatanus delta sp. nov. (India: West Bengal; Mizoram) and Taperus indicus sp. nov. (India: Arunachal Pradesh). (all from Angustuma), Apphia assamensis (Ramakrishnan) comb. nov. (Dussana), Apphia himalayana (Distant) comb. nov. (Platyretus) and Onukindia connexa (Distant) comb. nov. (Platyretus) are made. Evacanthus repexus Distant and Vangama steneosaura Distant appear to be species complexes and need to be further investigated. Lectotypes are designated for: Apphia burmanica Distant, Apphia himalayana (Distant), Bundera venata Distant, Cunedda phaeops Distant, Evacanthus bellus (Distant), Evacanthus militaris (Distant), Evacanthus repexus Distant, Mainda praeculta Distant, Onukindia connexa (Distant) and Vangama steneosaura Distant.

A new species of the genus Bolboceras Kirby, 1819; Bolboceras arunachalensis Chandra, Gupta & Ghosh, new species (Coleoptera: Geotrupidae: Bolboceratinae) from Arunachal Pradesh, India is described, diagnosed, and illustrated. Bolboceras perpunctatum Krikken, 2013 is recorded for the first time from Central India.

Abstract:Enterographa bengalensis, a new species is described from the mangrove reserve – Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve, West Bengal, India. It is characterized by the convergent punctiform to lirelliform ascomata, 12–15(–17) septate fusiform ascospores and the presence of psoromic acid. In addition, three species of the genus viz. E. anguinella (Nyl.) Redinger, E. divergens (Müll. Arg.) Redinger and E. multiseptata R. Sant. are also reported for the first time from India.

Two new species of genus Hydromanicus Brauer 1865 are described and illustrated: Hydromanicus religiosus sp. nov. and Hydromanicus sikkimensis sp. nov. (both from Sikkim). Potamyia phaidra Malicky & Chantaramongkol 1997 (from Meghalaya) and Cheumatopsyche chrysothemis Malicky & Chantaramongkol 1997 and Hydromanicus inferior Chantaramongkol & Malicky 1995 (both from West Bengal) are also reported for the first time from India. Further, the species Potamyia trenhona Oláh & Barnard 2006 (in Oláh et al. 2006) is considered a synonym of P. phaidra based on the similarity in wing venation, male genitalic appendages, and phallic structure.

The genus Hydropsyche is reviewed from India. Three new species are described and illustrated belonging to genus Hydropsyche. The newly described species are Hydropsyche curvata sp. nov., H. hajinensis sp. nov., both from Jammu & Kashmir, and H. golitarensis sp. nov. from Sikkim. Hydropsyche quadrata Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2000 (from Sikkim), H. augeias Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2000 (from Uttarakhand) and H. camillus Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2000 (from Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh) are reported for the first time from India. Hydropsyche athamas Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2000, H. homunculus Schmid 1965, and H. harpagofalcata Mey 1995 are also redescribed and reported for the first time from India. Hydropsyche nuristanica Schmid 1963 (from Jammu and Kashmir) and H. rakshakaha Oláh 1994 (from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal) are reported from these states for the first time. Hydropsyche charon Malicky & Chantaramongkol 2000, from Uttarakhand, H. appendicularis Martynov 1931, and H. pallipenne Banks 1938 are also redescribed and reported from Himachal Pradesh. Hydropsyche claviformis Mey 1996 is also redescribed based on a specimen from Sikkim. Furthermore, the male is redescribed and a neotype is designated for Hydropsyche asiatica Ulmer 1905. Hydropsyche chotanagpurensis is a nomen novum, replacing junior homonym Hydropsyche ulmeri (Martynov 1935). With these additions, the total number of Indian species for genus Hydropsyche is now 54. A catalogue of known Indian species is also given.

AbstractA new lichen species, Pyrenula darjeelingensis (Pyrenulaceae), is described from the Eastern Himalayan region of India. It is characterized by having 5-septate to submuriform ascospores with papillate apices and the terminal lumina mostly not separated from the exospore by an endospore layer. Six additional species of Pyrenula are reported for the first time from India: P. acutalis R. C. Harris, P. dermatodes (Borrer) Schaer., P. mastophoroides (Nyl.) Zahlbr., P. mucosa (Vain.) R. C. Harris, P. subelliptica (Tuck.) R. C. Harris and P. thelemorpha Tuck.

A new species of amphipod, Bathyporeia watkini sp. nov. from the Atlantic coasts of North Africa is described. This very characteristic species is abundant in some lagoons and estuaries near 28°N. New morphological information on B. elkaimi d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is given after specimens that were recently collected on the Atlantic coasts of southern Spain and South Portugal. The male of B. ledoyeri d’Udekem d’Acoz and Menioui, 2004 is described for the first time and new records of North African B. guilliamsoniana (Bate, 1857) and B. chevreuxi d'Udekem d'Acoz and Vader, 2005a are discussed.
