American Cerambycidae (Coleoptera): Four new species, new records and taxonomic notes

Four new species are described: Caribbomerus jaliscanus sp. nov. (Cerambycinae, Graciliini), from Mexico; Championa zarazagai sp. nov. and Championa chihuahuaensis sp. nov. (Cerambycinae, incertae sedis), both from Mexico; and Scopadus selkingi sp. nov. (Lamiinae, Acanthomerosternoplini), from Panama. We also propose keys for the following genera: Neocompsa Martins, 1965; Placoclytus Chemsak & Linsley, 1974; Nyssicus Pascoe, 1859; Championa Bates, 1880, and Scopadus Pascoe, 1857. Additionally, the differences between Hypexilis Horn, 1885 and Caribbomerus Vitali, 2003 are provided, Caribbomerus howdeni (Napp & Martins, 1984) is synonymized with Hypexilis pallida Horn, 1885, and new records are registered.

The lithostratigraphy and ammonite/ostracod biostratigraphy and the accompanying fauna of several sections and outcrops around the Hohenzollern (Zollernalb, SW Germany), ranging from the topmost Opalinuston Formation (uppermost Lower Aalenian) to the basal Wedelsandstein Formation (lowermost Lower Bajocian) are described and analyzed. The study of ostracods from 41 samples from the Aalenian and Lower Bajocian of the Heiligenbach, Hausterberg and Roschbach sections has yielded approximately 4,100 specimens. Significant changes in the ostracod assemblage occur at the base of the Lower Aalenian “Comptum” Subzone, at the Bradfordensis/Gigantea subzonal boundary, at the Bradfordensis/Concavum zonal boundary and at the Aalenian/Bajocian boundary (Concavum/Discites zones). A minor change occurs above the Calceola-Bank within the Concavum Zone. The following new ostracod species are described: Cytheropterina crassicostatasp. nov., Eucytherura ebertisp. nov. and Eucytherura foveolatasp. nov. In addition, 15 presumably new species are briefly described; 10 ‘incertae sedis’ taxa are figured, but left in open nomenclature. The ammonite faunas of the Inopernabank and Konglomeratbank beds (Upper Aalenian, Bradfordensis Zone, Gigantea Subzone) as well as the ammonite faunas from the Calceolabank and Rostrote Kalkbank beds (Upper Aalenian, Concavum Zone, Concavum Subzone, cavatum biohorizon) are described and correlated with those of other areas.

AbstractThe classification of the Nearctic species of the subgenus Orthocladius (Orthocladius) van der Wulp is revised; keys to species for males, females, pupae, and larvae are given; 65 characters in the adult male are taxonomically evaluated; and keys to and diagnoses of the species of the subgenera of Orthocladius for males, females, pupae, and larvae are given. Twenty-nine names of O. (Orthocladius) are recognized as valid. Redescriptions of 17 previously-known species and descriptions of 11 new species are presented. The new species are: O. appersoni, O. charensis, O. clarkei, O. cooki, O. hazenensis, O. hellenthali, O. knuthi, O. oliveri, O. robacki, O. subletti, and O. tryoni. Orthocladius paradorenus (Roback) is considered as a synonym of O. obumbratus Johannsen, and O. currani Sublette is considered as a synonym of O. dorenus (Roback); O. nanseni Kieffer and O. sordens Johannsen are considered as nomina dubia; O. bifasciatus Malloch and O. clepsydrus Coquillett are incertae sedis. Lectotypes are designated for Chironomus decoratus Holmgren, O. dentifer Brundin, O. excavatus Brundin, O. lapponicus Goetghebuer, O. obumbratus Johannsen, and O. trigonolabis Edwards. Orthocladius dentifer Brundin, O. excavatus Brundin, and O. smolandicus Brundin are new records from North America. Orthocladius glacialis Kieffer probably does not occur in North America. Orthocladius oblidens (Walker) is accepted as the type-species of the genus Orthocladius.

New taxonomic, diagnostic and faunistic data for eighteen species of the genus Lesteva Latreille, 1797 from China are provided, of which three are described as new: L. (s.str.) concava Cheng, Li & Peng, sp. nov. (Anhui, Zhejiang), L. (s.str.) elongata Cheng, Li & Peng, sp. nov. (Zhejiang) and L. (s.str.) obesa Cheng, Li & Peng, sp. nov. (Chongqing). AbstractNumerous new taxa and classifications of Dothideomycetes have been published following the last monograph of families of Dothideomycetes in 2013. A recent publication by Honsanan et al. in 2020 expanded information of families in Dothideomycetidae and Pleosporomycetidae with modern classifications. In this paper, we provide a refined updated document on orders and families incertae sedis of Dothideomycetes. Each family is provided with an updated description, notes, including figures to represent the morphology, a list of accepted genera, and economic and ecological significances. We also provide phylogenetic trees for each order. In this study, 31 orders which consist 50 families are assigned as orders incertae sedis in Dothideomycetes, and 41 families are treated as families incertae sedis due to lack of molecular or morphological evidence. The new order, Catinellales, and four new families, Catinellaceae, Morenoinaceae Neobuelliellaceae and Thyrinulaceae are introduced. Seven genera (Neobuelliella, Pseudomicrothyrium, Flagellostrigula, Swinscowia, Macroconstrictolumina, Pseudobogoriella, and Schummia) are introduced. Seven new species (Acrospermum urticae, Bogoriella complexoluminata, Dothiorella ostryae, Dyfrolomyces distoseptatus, Macroconstrictolumina megalateralis, Patellaria microspora, and Pseudomicrothyrium thailandicum) are introduced base on morphology and phylogeny, together with two new records/reports and five new collections from different families. Ninety new combinations are also provided in this paper.

AbstractKristianstads Vattenrike Biosphere Reserve [KVBR] is a UNESCO designated area of Sweden possessing high biological value. Although several studies on tardigrades inhabiting Sweden have been performed, the KVBR area has been neglected. The current study investigates the tardigrade fauna of five areas of the biosphere reserve and includes 34 samples of different substrates analysed quantitatively and qualitatively. In total, 33 species of tardigrades were found in the samples, including 22 new records for the Skåne region, 15 new records for Sweden, and four species new to science. Mesobiotus emiliae sp. nov., Xerobiotus gretae sp. nov., Itaquascon magnussoni sp. nov., and Thulinius gustavi sp. nov. were described with an integrative approach (when possible) using morphological characters (light, electron scanning, and confocal laser scanning microscopies) and molecular markers (ITS2, 18S, 28S, cox1). A new protocol to increase morphological data was developed recovering mounted specimens within old slides for SEM analysis. Emended diagnoses for the genus Itaquascon and the transfer of Platicrista itaquasconoide to the genus Meplitumen are proposed. This study enriches the knowledge of the tardigrade biodiversity both within the KVBR and in Sweden and contributes to the rapidly increasing number of tardigrade species reported worldwide. The 33 species identified in the KVBR area represents 28% of all water bear species found in Sweden so far. The restricted study areas and limited number of samples collected suggests that the KVBR is very rich of tardigrades.
