A new species of genus Homoeoxipha Saussure, 1874 from China (Orthoptera: Trigonidiidae: Trigonidiinae)

The genus Homoeoxipha contains 11 species worldwide with 4 recorded from China. In this study, we reconstructed the gene tree based on COI gene, and reported one new species, H. oscillantenna He sp. nov. The new species is similar to H. eurylobus Ma, Liu & Zhang, but differs in the color of fore femur and the structure of male genitalia. Calling songs and nymph morphology are also provided. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

The genus Parapentacentrus Shiraki, 1930 includes two species with long wings. In this paper, we report one new species, P. brevipennis He sp. nov., from Jinping, Yunnan, China. The new species have short forewings and hindwings, and have differences in the shape of supra-anal plate and male genitalia. DNA Barcode (COI gene) of this new species are provided. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

Parapteronemobius contains 7 species or subspecies distributed in East Asia with only one species recorded from China. In this study, we reported the second species, P. chenggong He sp. nov., from Zhejiang. The new species differs from P. dibrachiatus in body size, male genitalia and COI gene. The phylogeny of this genus in subfamily Nemobiinae are discussed based on COI, 18S and 28S genes. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

One new species, Paratrigonidium chloropodum sp. nov., is described from Hainan, China. The type specimens are deposited in East China Normal University, Biology of History Museum (ECNU). S. venustula is moved to genus Paratrigonidium as P. venustulum comb. nov. P. vittatum Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1893 syn. is the junior synonym of P. venustulum.

In this study, we describe one new species, Sichuana feicui He sp. nov., from Mao County, Sichuan Province, China. This new species is different from S. cryptospina in the shape of cercus, and the color pattern of hind femur. To date, only one species of whip spider has been recorded in China. Here, we describe a new species, Weygoldtia hainanensis sp. nov., from Hainan, China. The new species is morphologically similar to W. davidovi (Fage, 1946) and W. consonensis Miranda et al. 2021, but can be distinguished with a combination of the following characters: 26 segments in tibia I, 6-7 teeth on chelicerae, distitibia IV trichobothria sc and sf series each with 10-11 trichobothria. To validate our morphological inferences and support the erection of W. hainanensis sp. nov. as a new species, we sequenced the COI gene region for two individuals and performed molecular phylogenetic analyses. The inferred phylogenetic trees placed the new species within Weygoldtia and highlighted the evolutionary distinction between W. hainanensis sp. nov. and currently described whip spiders. The type specimens are deposited in the Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

There are six species of genus Teleogryllus Chopard, 1961 recorded from China prior to this study. They belong to either subgenus Macroteleogryllus or subgenus Brachyteleogryllus. We describe a new species, Teleogryllus (Teleogryllus) albipalpus He sp. nov. belonging to subgenus Teleogryllus from Yunnan, China. The morphology of adults and nymphs in different instars, songs and COI gene are provided. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

COI genes of Velarifictorus spp. were used to reconstruct a phylogenetic tree for confirming the relationships of these species. Seven species of the subgenus Duolandrevus (Eulandrevus) Kirby, 1906 have been recorded from China prior to this study. Their morphology is similar, and genitalia can be used for distinguishing different species in earlier research. We describe one new species, D. (E.) obsidianus He sp. nov. from Guangxi. The new species is similar to related species in gross morphology, but showed differences in genitalia with epiphallic lateral lobes bifurcated apically in right angle. The songs and COI genes are first compared in this study, and the results support the validity of the new species. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).

Most male crickets can produce songs mostly for attracting females. Songs are specific among species,. this depending on physiology and the structural characteristics of the forewings. Nevertheless, some species belonging to subfamily Gryllinae have lost their singing abilities (mute species). Chinese examples include Agryllus spp., Conoblemmus spp., Goniogryllus spp. and Callogryllus yunnanus. Males of these genera are either wingless or have forwings similar to those of females. These crickets have been poorly studied in China. In this study, we describe one new genus Asonicogryllus He gen. nov. with a new species Asonicogryllus kwanghua sp. nov. from western Yunnan. The type specimens are deposited in Museum of Biology, East China Normal University (ECNU).
