I wish to direct attention to a report by the Council on Dental Therapeutics of the American Dental Association (J. Am. Dental A., April, 1958) on prescribing supplements of dietary fluorides. An examination of the letter by Dr. Trieger (Pediatrics, 20:919, 1957) reveals several areas of possible confusion. (1) There was an inadvertent confusion of sodium fluoride with the fluoride ion, which makes up less than half of the weight of the compound. Thus the quantity of fluoride suggested is somewhat less than half the quantity which was probably intended to be incorporated in the prescription.
