The content of combustible elements in solid mineral fuels (carbon, hydrogen, etc.) are very important, since they most directly affect the heat value. It should be noted that the fuel heat value depends on many other constituents, such as ash and moisture. In this paper, special attention has been paid to carbon content. In solid mineral fuels, carbon is found alone or bound in the form of various compounds. One of them is mineral carbonate compounds bound as carbonate carbon, which originates from absorbed carbon dioxide from atmosphere. Determination of carbonate carbon content of solid mineral fuels was performed by standard gravimetric method (according to ISO 925: 2019), and newly developed instrumental method, using thermogravimetric analyzer LECO TGA 701. Comparison of obtained experimental results was done. Four types of coal, Kolubara lignite, Kostolac lignite, brown coal and control coal sample were included in experimental analysis. In addition, moisture in the samples was also determined using analytical method and inspected using LECO TGA 701 thermogravimetric analyzer, as well as total carbon content using the LECO CHN 628 elemental analyzer. An analysis and comparison of the obtained results was performed, and comments and conclusions are presented. The experiments were done in the department for fuel characterization, Laboratory for Thermal Engineering and Energy, Institute of Nuclear Sciences Vinca.

Two orthic profiles, widely separated geographically, of each of four parent materials—lacustrine, alluvial–lacustrine, glacial till, and Aeolian—were selected at undisturbed sites within each of the Brown, Dark Brown, and Thin Black soil zones. Material from the Ah and Bm horizons was subjected to solvent extraction, and for each sample the total organic carbon of seven different fractions was determined.The efficiency of the procedure in extracting humus carbon decreased as the total carbon content of the soil increased. Total organic matter, the first humic acid fraction, and the combined total of the three humic acid fractions showed significant differences between soil zones. The only significant separation between all four parent materials was made by the alcohol-benzene fraction. Other parent material separations were possible only following the summation of data of several fractions, such as the three humic acid fractions or the two fulvic acid fractions. A simplification of the procedure in case of soils of one Order and a modification to overcome the impeding effect of increased carbon content are requisite.

ABSTRACTThis work presents the analysis performed on a SiO2 film deposited from organometallic precursors with the aim of correlating their physico-chemical properties including electrical characteristics with processing variables. The characterization tools used in this study included SEM for film homogeneity; SIMS for the determination of total carbon content; FT-MS and Raman scattering spectroscopy for surface characterization. GC-MS was used to understand the electrochemical reactions taking place while performing I-V characteristics measurements.The use of these multiple characterization techniques pointed out to deposited films with reasonable deposition characteristics but poor electrical ones. Phase segregated heterogeneity's rich in carbonatious residues influenced the degradation of the electrical characteristics.
