Myersiella microps (Duméril and Bibron, 1841) is considered data deficient (DD) in the State of Minas Gerais, Southeastern Brazil. Herein we provide new records and a geographic distribution map of this Poorly known species. These data provide valuable information for a conservation status assessment of M. microps.

Herein, we report new records of the treefrogs Dendropsophus anceps and Itapotihyla langsdorffii for the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Both species are known from several localities in the Atlantic Rainforest domain, but their presence in state of Minas Gerais is restricted to few localities. The present records reinforce the importance of field surveys for improving the knowledge about the geographic distribution and conservation status of Brazilian amphibians.

A New Species

A new species, Calea arachnoidea, which belongs to Calea sect. Meyeria, is hereby described and illustrated. This species occurs in the Serra Negra region, located in the southern portion of the “Zona da Mata” in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Calea arachnoidea resembles C. quadrifolia, C. heteropappa and C. semirii, and its relationships with these species are discussed and an identification key for the species of C. sect. Meyeria in the state of Minas Gerais is provided. Additionally, photographs, a distribution map, comments about habitat and conservation status are provided.

In this study we report the first record of the giant torrent frog Megaelosia apuana in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. The finding of this species at Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) Mata do Sossego, municipality of Simonésia, east of Minas Gerais extends its geographic distribution by 120 km from the type locality, and 45 km northwest from its westernmost known record. A geographic distribution map is presented.

We report new records of the recently reestablished Lamanonia ulei (Engl.) L.B.Sm. (Cunoniaceae) from southeastern Brazil. This species is currently known by only eight specimens from Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo states. We present seven new records that include Espírito Santo state in the species distribution, and expand its north and east limits of occurrence. We also present a taxonomic description, photos, occurrence map, conservation status assessment of L. ulei, and an identification key for all the species of Lamanonia Vell. from Brazil.

Kentropyx paulensis and Tupinambis duseni are teiid lizard species endemic to the Cerrado ecoregion. They are, respectively, considered “Vulnerable” and “Near Threatened” in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Herein, we report the occurrence of both species in the municipality of Buenópolis, Minas Gerais, representing their easternmost locality and the second state record. An updated distribution map for K. paulensis and T. duseni is presented.

We provide the first record of Rhinella inopina in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, in municipalities of Bonito de Minas and Januária. It is also the species southernmost record, extending its known geographic distribution in about 170 and 210 km respectively southeastward its closest previously record, in municipality of Sítio d'Abadia, State of Goiás, Central Brazil.

First Occurrence

New records of Megalops atlanticus Valenciennes, 1847 in the state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil, are reported from recreational catches carried out in February 2017. Data collected is the first occurrence of this species in more than 50 years, extending its geographic distribution by about 250 km, from Cananéia, in the south, to Guarujá, on the central coast. Although rarely recorded, M. atlanticus is present off the coast of São Paulo. This possibly represents the southernmost distribution for M. atlanticus in the Southwest Atlantic.
