In this study, we employed pressurized creep tubes to investigate the biaxial thermal creep behavior of Inconel 617 (Alloy 617) and Haynes 230 (Alloy 230). Both alloys have been considered to be the primary candidate structural materials for very high temperature reactors (VHTRs) due to their exceptional high-temperature mechanical properties. The current creep experiments were conducted at 900°C for the effective stress range of 15–35 MPa. For both alloys, complete creep strain development with primary, secondary, and tertiary regimes were observed in all studied conditions. The tertiary creep was found to be dominant in the entire creep lives of both alloys. With increasing applied creep stress, the fraction of the secondary creep regime decreases. The nucleation, diffusion, and coarsening of creep voids and carbides on grain boundaries was found to be the main reason for the limited secondary regime, and was also found to be the major cause of creep fracture. The creep curves computed using the adjusted creep equation of the form ε = Aσ cosh−1(1 + rt) + Pσntm agree well with the experimental results for both alloys at the temperatures of 850–950°C. Possible restrictions on isotropic constitutive laws for finitely deformed elastic solids are examined from the standpoint of Hill (1968). This introduced the notion of conjugate pairs of stress and strain measures, whereby families of contending inequalities can be generated. A typical member inequality stipulates that the scalar product of the rates of change of certain conjugate variables is positive in all circumstances. Interrelations between the various inequalities are explored, and some statical implications are established. The discussion depends on several ancillary theorems which are apparently new; these have, in addition, an intrinsic interest in the broad field of basic stress—strain analysis.

This study focused on stress and strain analysis of the cutting force of a branch knife with a replaceable cutting edge. The replaceable edge forms part of the delimbing head, which is applied to the arms of a mechanical harvester working in forestry. Basic parameters of the knife and head of the harvester with the basic calculations necessary to determine the number of knives based on input parameters, such as wood diameter, woody plants, and determination of the cutting force acting on the cutting knife, were examined. Based on the cutting force and the design of the special cutting knife, a stress analysis and a finite element method (FEM) was performed. This study confirmed the correctness of the selected material to produce the delimbing knife, which was designed using a replaceable cutting edge. The output of the stress analysis is reported.
