Two New Species of Lychnophorella (Vernonieae, Asteraceae) from the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia State, Brazil

Abstract—Lychnophorella comprises eleven species. It is characterized by the presence of a pad-like leaf sheath, strongly imbricate persistent phyllaries, glabrous corolla lobes, and apical anther appendages that are constricted at the base. The genus is restricted to the campos rupestres of Chapada Diamantina, Bahia State, Northeastern Brazil. Lychnophorella hindii is morphologically similar to L. santosii and Lychnophorella saxicola is similar to L. leucodendron. These new species are described and illustrated, their affinities discussed and an updated key for the genus is provided.

Two new species of Lantana are here described and illustrated. Lantana speciosa is endemic to the campos rupestres of the Espinhaço Range in Bahia and Minas Gerais, whilst Lantana restingensis is endemic to the restingas of the Atlantic forest in the state of Sergipe, northeastern Brazil. Comparative tables of morphologically similar and sympatric Lantana species are provided.

Abstract—A synopsis of Dicliptera (Acanthaceae) for Brazil is presented. Six species are recognized: Dicliptera ciliaris, D. sexangularis, and D. squarrosa, widely distributed in South America; D. purpurascens, which ranges from the North Region of Brazil (in the state of Acre) to eastern Bolivia; D. gracilirama, a new species from the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil; and D. granchaquenha, a new species recorded in dry and semideciduous forests in Bolivia and western Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Furthermore, we propose new synonyms and designate lectotypes for eleven names. An identification key to the six accepted Dicliptera species in Brazil is provided.

Two new species of Ctenitis (Dryopteridaceae) from South America are described and illustrated: Ctenitis christensenii is endemic to southeastern Brazil and C. glandulosa occurs from southeastern to northeastern Brazil and in Guyana. An identification key and notes about the distribution, habitat and taxonomy of the new species, C. falciculata and allies are provided. Moreover, seven lectotypifications and two new synonyms are proposed.

Two new species of Kaempferia L. (Zingiberaceae), Kaempferia nemoralis Insis. sp. nov. and Kaempferia pascuorum Insis. sp. nov., from Cambodia and Lao PDR are described and illustrated. Morphological similarities to their closely related taxa are discussed. Kaempferia nemoralis Insis. sp. nov. is compared with Kaempferia larsenii Sirirugsa in its vegetative parts, but distinguished by the following characters: whole plant taller, leaf sheath and young shoot apex green, petiole absent. It differs from Kaempferia rotunda L. in its floral parts by the following characters: presence of peduncle, floral tube longer, labellum purple with white line at centre, anther crest obovate, bifid, apex irregularly rounded and ovary glabrous. Kaempferia pascuorum Insis. sp. nov. is compared with Kaempferia larsenii Sirirugsa. Proposed IUCN conservation assessments are also given: Kaempferia nemoralis Insis. sp. nov. occurs in disturbed, open forest and is assessed as CR, whereas Kaempferia pascuorum Insis. sp. nov. occurs in short grassland and is assessed as EN.

This is the first record of the genus Ljania Thor, 1898 (Axonopsinae, Aturidae, Hydrachnidiae, Acari) from China. Two new species, Ljania jini sp. nov. and Ljania guangxiensis sp. nov., are described from Guangxi Province, P. R. China. The new detections bring the total number of Chinese aturid mites to eleven species, representing seven genera.

A new species of Spigelia subg. Spigelia sect. Graciles, S. alborubra, is described and illustrated. It is known from Campos Rupestres and Caatinga s.s. in the states of Bahia and Pernambuco, Brazil. It is similar to S. pulchella, based on its exserted stigma and red corolla tube, but S. alborubra differs by its shorter corolla, with a constriction at the apex of the tube, whitish corolla lobes which open only at the apex, and by its inserted stamens. Based on the habit and on the shape of the corolla, it is superficially similar to other species of Spigelia subg. Spigelia sect. Graciles, such as S. gracilis, S. linarioides, S. schlechtendaliana and S. spartioides. However, the new species is easily distinguished from them by its salverform corolla and exserted stigma. According to the IUCN criteria, it is classified as Endangered (EN) due to its narrow distribution.

The genus Gripopteryx is revised and two new species are described, G. japi n. sp. from southeastern Brazil, and G. clemira n. sp. from northeastern Brazil. The male of G. brasiliensis Šámal, 1921 and the female of G. flinti Froehlich, 1993 are described. New figures for G. maculosa Jewett, 1960, for the male of G. reticulata Brauer, 1866, and for the female of G. brasiliensis are provided. Keys to adult males and to nymphs are provided.
