- With the present study we cast light upon the demanding labour of Individuation- Separation that adult sons and daughters are asked to renovate when their parents get old and become dependent. In this turning point, children are asked to some extent to become the parents of their own parents. This is a very tough passage and there is a risk of confounding, especially if an "unconscious mix up" acts upon the children, the parents or between them. Starting from the legend of Aeneas that carries his old father Anchises on his shoulders, some theoretical speculations about the painful separation from aged parents are here proposed. Clinical examples illustrate the therapist's work that helps the patient in the Individuation process. This process develops within the intra-psychic space but needs also a strong investment at an inter-personal level. Only after reaching a separation condition the adult son or daughter can carry on his/her shoulders the aged parent without being overcome by crossed projections.Key words: Individuation-separation, aged parents, adult sons/daughters

ABSTRACTLoki, one of the most mischievous of the Norse gods, is a classic Trickster figure. This mythological character is difficult to define but is an archetype that Jung himself explored. The Trickster can be understood not only as a part of the Jungian individuation process, but also, from an anthropological perspective, as a metaphor for change, embodying the dynamics between the personal and the systemic. Mythological narratives featuring Loki portray him as a figure that frequently challenges the civilising forces of society, a challenge that can lead to either destruction or renewal for the society in question. More recently, however, the character of Loki has been revived as part of a Hollywood film franchise featuring a number of the comic book giant Marvel’s characters. This highly profitable enterprise, includes contemporary versions of other members of the Norse pantheon including Thor, Odin and Frigg, but Loki, as played by Tom Hiddleston, has proved a particularly popular character with the fans. This paper examines the history of Loki in the Icelandic Edda as well as the Hollywood commodification of the character in order to explore the psychological importance of the Trickster for the contemporary individual.

Abstract: This analysis attempts to show the relations between the individual psyche and the contents of the collective unconscious. Following Von Franz’s analytical technique, the tragic action in King Lear will be read as an individuation process that will rescue archetypal contents and solve existential paradoxes that cause an imbalance between the ego and the self, leading to self-destruction. Once communication is eased and balance is restored, the transformation-seeking process that engaged the design of the play itself becomes resolved, and events can be led to a conventional tragic resolution. Jungian analysis will therefore provide a critical framework to unveil the subconscious contents that tear the character of the king between annihilation and survival, the anima complex that affects the king, responding thus for the action of the play and its centuries-old success.

This study discusses the psychological journey of the female heroine in Margaret Atwood's Surfacing. This paper applies the psychological approach since it is believed to be the most suitable approach to analyze the process of the heroine’s journey towards wholeness. It examines the process of individuation in the main plot of the novel and the characteristics of the process on the heroine’s personal quest. The portrayal of the individuation process is identified through the theory of individuation proposed by Charles Gustav Jung which discusses the process of the individual’s development towards psychological completeness. In order to support the analysis, library research was conducted using the novel as well as the supporting articles from any reliable websites. The result shows that the heroine’s journey can be translated as Jungian’s theory of individuation as there are six characteristics of the process of individuation found within the story. Furthermore, five stages occurred in the heroine’s journey, namely the recognition of the persona, the assimilation with the shadow, the confrontation with the animus, and lastly the appearance of the Self that leads the heroine towards psychological wholeness.

ABSTRACTThis paper explores links between the theatrical aspect of the Dionysian archetype and Analytical Psychology. It looks at some of the Dionysian elements in Jung’s published work and follows up with a brief exploration into how some of the potentially generative aspects of the archetype continue to be suspect in current clinical practice. Plutarch’s historic anecdote about the first actor, Thespis, and his dialogue with the Athenian Magistrate, Solon, will provide a focus with which to explore Dionysian elements within the Individuation process. A final section includes a short case history illustrating Dionysian elements unfolding in the theater of Jungian analysis.
