BEAM MODELING FOR PGNAA EXPERIMENTAL FACILITY AT KARTINI REACTOR. A feasibility study on possible use of Kartini reactor’s beam port for Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGNAA) experimental facility is going on. This work is part of the revitalization program activities of Kartini research reactor, including utilization of the available irradiation facilities. This paper presents results of beam modeling at the tangential beam port to get neutron beam meeting the specified criteria. The study was conducted by means of simulations using MCNPX code. The result concludes that there are several possible variations of collimator models that can provide neutron beam meeting the specified criteria and that tangential beam port is considered to be feasible enough for the purpose of PGNAA experimental facility

The first installation around the tangential beam tube of the Moroccan TRIGA Mark II research reactor comprises combined instruments for Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis (PGAA) and Neutron Imaging (NI). The implementation of this project is divided over three main stages, namely the installation of the collimator and the primary beam shutter, which is a common section for introduction inside the reactor; the PGAA instruments’ installation; and finally, the installation of the PGNAA/NI combined instruments. The entire design was planned for this project, and detailed information about the first and the second stage is described in this work.

ABSTRAK KARAKTERISTIK BERKAS PADA BEAM PORT TEMBUS DAN SINGGUNG REAKTOR KARTINI. Telah dilakukan serangkaian perhitungan untuk mempelajari karakterisitk berkas neutron dan foton gamma pada beam port tembus dan singgung menggunakan program MCNPX.  Kegiatan ini terkait dengan rencana perancangan dan penyediaan fasilitas eksperimen PGNAA (Prompt Gamma Neutron Activation Analysis) menggunakan sumber neutron dari salah satu beam port pada reaktor Kartini yang masih belum dimanfaatkan. Hasil dari simulasi ini akan digunakan sebagai dasar dalam pemilihan beam port yang dipandang paling sesuai untuk digunakan, berdasarkan beberapa persyaratan yang ditetapkan, seperti karakteristik spektrum neutron pada bagian keluaran beam port, dsb. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan beam port singgung memberikan karakteristik spektrum neutron yang lebih baik dibanding beam port tembus sesuai dengan kriteria yang dipersyaratkan. Dalam hal ini nilai rasio fluks neutron termal dan epitermal terhadap fluks neutron cepat pada bagian keluaran beam port masing-masing ϕth/ϕf = 3,086 dan ϕepi/ϕf = 2,733 yang lebih tinggi dibanding untuk  beam port tembus yang nilainya ϕth/ϕf = 0,803 dan ϕepi/ϕf = 0,625.
