Multiple aspects covering multiannual close cooperation between Dr. V.A. Karlov and prominent scientists from the Research Center of Neurology have been illuminated in the report. It was shown how an extended study was performed at the joint between two medical disciplines and what importance for the staff had Professor Karlov pedagogical activity.

The Russian Research Center was established February 1, 1948. It is supported by the Carnegie Corporation on a grant covering the period until July 1, 1953. The Research Center is an integral part of Harvard University and the senior members of its staff are all members of the Harvard faculty. Although the Center is not directly concerned with instruction, there is close cooperation with the Soviet Program of the Committee on International and Regional Studies, and a number of members of the Center staff teach in this program.

The focus of this article is on the study of bilingual and multilingual adults at the Howard Goodglass Aphasia Research Center and the Language in the Aging Brain Laboratory by Drs. Obler and Albert along with former students and colleagues. Summaries of studies examining research in healthy bilingual adults, healthy monolingual older adults, and monolingual and bilingual individuals with aphasia are presented.
