Background Transorbital intracranial penetrating injury is rare. Damage caused by a huge metallic foreign body is very critical and life-threatening. Method We report an extremely rare case of transorbital intracranial penetrating metal strip (a car windshield wiper), which has not previously been reported in the literature. Results Emergency craniotomy was performed; the object was removed successfully, and the patient's life was saved. Conclusion With the life-threatening penetrating brain injury caused by a huge foreign body, prompt surgical treatment and comprehensive postoperative treatment are important to save patients' lives.

Introduction: Pulmonary hernias are rare conditions, most are the results of an injury or previous thoracic surgery. Case report: We present a case of a 48-year-old woman injured in a car accident. The examination in the trauma centre revealed a chest injury with herniation of the lung parenchyma into the chest wall and fractures of long bones of lower limbs. Initially, an osteosynthesis of the left femur and the right tibia fracture were performed. The patient underwent a subsequent surgery to repair the pulmonary hernia. Conclusion: A pulmonary hernia is diagnosed either directly during a clinical examination or by imaging. A sovereign diagnostic method is a computed tomography. The method of treatment is a surgical repair with primary suture of the chest wall defect or implantation of a mesh to repair the pulmonary hernia.

Thoracic chest wall trauma is a common injury in patients admitted to hospital following injury and is associated with high mortality. British Orthopaedic Association Standards for Trauma and Orthopaedics guidelines recommend consideration of rib fracture fixation in patients with flail chest wall injuries with respiratory compromise or uncontrollable pain. Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can be utilised in patients with severe respiratory dysfunction and we present the case of a patient who underwent rib fracture fixation while receiving ECMO. A 32-year-old male was admitted to our department following a 4.5m fall. He sustained significant thoracic injuries with multiple ribs fractures and a flail segment from the right fourth to ninth ribs. Treatment consisted of bilateral chest drains, ECMO support, tracheostomy and rib fracture fixation to the eighth and ninth ribs. The patient made a rapid recovery following surgery and ECMO support was ceased 2.5 days postoperatively. The case shows that a well-prepared, combined specialty surgical team can safely perform rib fixation for a patient on ECMO.

The author describes the following rare case of finding a metallic foreign body in the uterus. On May 18, 1890, he was approached by a woman who, on May 6, being on the 3rd month of pregnancy, in order to have a squatting abortion, inserted a hairpin into her uterus. I had a miscarriage. When examined, the vagina is free and the uterine opening is closed. The uterus is slightly enlarged, it is still in retroversio. In the anterior vault, on the right, the blunt end of a barely moving object is felt. With a probe, at the place of the internal uterine os, you come across a solid object, between the dark as the uterine cavity above is empty.
