Abstract In this paper, a new two-dimensional (2-D) chaos-based color image encryption and decryption scheme is proposed in which the noise signal is selected randomly to set the initial values for a chaotic system which also enhances the security of the system. The 256-bit hash value of noise is transformed into one-time initial values for the state variables of this proposed chaotic system. XOR operation is further carried out to diffuse the pixels. Finally, statistical and security analyses are performed for understanding the effectiveness of the proposed system. Experimental results confirm that the proposed chaos-based cryptosystem is efficient and suitable for information (image) transmission in a highly secured way.

In this paper, we propose an image encryption algorithm based on four-dimensional chaotic system to generate key and improve advanced encryption standard. The encryption algorithm is optimized by using the pipeline and parallel computing features of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). First, the chaotic system is used as a key generator for the encryption algorithm. Next, in the improved advanced encryption standard, ShiftRows and SubByres are modified with Spin-Sort and Cubic S-Box, and the round of encryption is reduced. We implement the encryption algorithm and the wired image transmission system to the ARM-based SoC-FPGA. The HPS software runs on Linux and is used to control the FPGA encryption algorithm and image transmission. Finally, the results from the encryption security analysis show that the proposed image encryption algorithm is safe and effective.

This paper proposes a novel exponential hyper–chaotic system with complex dynamic behaviors. It also analyzes the chaotic attractor, bifurcation diagram, equilibrium points, Poincare map, Kaplan–Yorke dimension, and Lyapunov exponent behaviors. A fast terminal sliding mode control scheme is then designed to ensure the fast synchronization and stability of the new exponential hyper–chaotic system. Stability analysis was performed using the Lyapunov stability theory. One of the main features of the proposed controller is the finite time stability of the terminal sliding surface designed with high–order power function of error and derivative of error. The approach was implemented for image cryptosystem. Color image encryption was carried out to confirm the performance of the new hyper–chaotic system. For image encryption, the DNA encryption-based RGB algorithm was used. Performance assessment of the proposed approach confirmed the ability of the proposed hyper–chaotic system to increase the security of image encryption.

In order to solve the security problem of transmission image across public networks, a new image encryption algorithm based on TD-ERCS system and wavelet neural network is proposed in this paper. According to the permutation process and the binary XOR operation from the chaotic series by producing TD-ERCS system and wavelet neural network, it can achieve image encryption. This encryption algorithm is a reversible algorithm, and it can achieve original image in the rule inverse process of encryption algorithm. Finally, through computer simulation, the experiment results show that the new chaotic encryption algorithm based on TD-ERCS system and wavelet neural network is valid and has higher security.

A novel image encryption algorithm using the chaotic system and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) computing is presented. Different from the traditional encryption methods, the permutation and diffusion of our method are manipulated on the 3D DNA matrix. Firstly, a 3D DNA matrix is obtained through bit plane splitting, bit plane recombination, DNA encoding of the plain image. Secondly, 3D DNA level permutation based on position sequence group (3DDNALPBPSG) is introduced, and chaotic sequences generated from the chaotic system are employed to permutate the positions of the elements of the 3D DNA matrix. Thirdly, 3D DNA level diffusion (3DDNALD) is given, the confused 3D DNA matrix is split into sub-blocks, and XOR operation by block is manipulated to the sub-DNA matrix and the key DNA matrix from the chaotic system. At last, by decoding the diffused DNA matrix, we get the cipher image. SHA 256 hash of the plain image is employed to calculate the initial values of the chaotic system to avoid chosen plaintext attack. Experimental results and security analyses show that our scheme is secure against several known attacks, and it can effectively protect the security of the images.
