This paper makes use of the characteristics of initial sensitivity and randomness of the chaotic map to design an image encryption algorithm based on the sine map and the tent map. The sine map is used to improve the tent map; then, the improved sine-tent map is proposed. The traditional tent map proposed in this paper has an expanded control parameter range and better chaos. In this algorithm, bit rearrangement is adopted to further improve the improved sine-tent map, which can reconstruct the output value and expand the chaotic characteristics of the map. In this algorithm, the image parameters are connected with the algorithm to generate the key. In the encryption step, a method of replacing the most significant bit and scrambling-diffusion algorithm is designed to encrypt the plaintext image. Finally, the algorithm is simulated with the experiment and evaluated with analysis; then, the experimental results are given. The evaluation results show that the ciphertext of the algorithm has high randomness, strong robustness, and better resistance to differential attacks after comparison. The correlation of the ciphertext image pixels is very low, and the algorithm is highly secure as a conclusion.

Abstract Nonlinear physics and agroecosystems can be of great relevance in the synchronisations of chaotic oscillators. The endogenous dynamics of the seed production of perennial plant species which include alternate bearing and masting, portray typical synchronisation patterns in nature and can be modelled using a tent map known as a resource budget model (RBM). This study investigates the collective rhythm in 9,562 pistachio trees caused by their endogenous network dynamics and exogenous forces (common noise). Common noise and a local coupling of RBMs are the two primary factors emerging from the bearing phase synchronisation in this orchard. The in-phase/out-of-phase analysis technique quantifying the strength of the phase synchronisation in trees (population /individual) allows us to study the observed spatial synchrony in detail. We demonstrate how three essential factors, i.e. (a) common noise, (b) local direct coupling, and (c) the gradient of the cropping coefficient, explain the spatial synchrony of the orchard. Here, we also show that the methodology employing nonlinear physics to study agroecological systems can be useful for resolving practical problems in agriculture including yield variability and spatial synchrony which often compromise efficient resource management.

In cryptography, the pseudorandom number sequences must have random appearance to be used in secure information systems. The skew tent map (STM) is an attractive map to produce pseudorandom sequences due to its easy implementation and the absence of stability islands when it is in chaotic behavior. Using the STM and sine function, we propose and analyze a function composition to propose a pseudorandom number generator (PRNG). In the analysis of the function composition, we use the bifurcation diagram and the Lyapunov exponent to perform a behavioral comparison against the STM. We show that the proposed function composition is more sensitive to initial conditions than the STM, and then it is a better option than the STM for cryptography applications. For the proposed function we determine and avoid the chaos annulling traps. The proposed PRNG can be configured to generate pseudorandom numbers of 8, 16 or 32 bits and it can be implemented on microcontrollers with different architectures. We evaluate the pseudorandomness of the proposed PRNG using the NIST SP 800-22 and TestU01 suites. Additionally, to evaluate its quality, we apply tests such as correlation coefficient, key sensitivity, statistical and entropy analysis, key space, linear complexity, and speed. Finally, we performed a comparison with similar PRNGs that produce pseudorandom sequences considering numbers of 8 and 32 bits. The results show that the proposed PRNG maintains its security regardless of the selected configuration. The proposed PRNG has five important features: easy implementation, configurable to produce number with 8, 16 or 32 bits, high processing speed, high linear complexity, and wide key space. These features are necessary for cryptographic systems.

Abstract Fitness Dependent Optimizer (FDO) is a recent metaheuristic algorithm that mimics the reproduction behavior of the bee swarm in finding better hives. This algorithm is similar to Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) but it works differently. The algorithm is very powerful and has better results compared to other common metaheuristic algorithms. This paper aims at improving the performance of FDO, thus, the chaotic theory is used inside FDO to propose Chaotic FDO (CFDO). Ten chaotic maps are used in the CFDO to consider which of them are performing well to avoid local optima and finding global optima. New technic is used to conduct population in specific limitation since FDO technic has a problem to amend population. The proposed CFDO is evaluated by using 10 benchmark functions from CEC2019. Finally, the results show that the ability of CFDO is improved. Singer map has a great impact on improving CFDO while the Tent map is the worst. Results show that CFDO is superior to GA, FDO, and CSO. Both CEC2013 and CEC2005 are used to evaluate CFDO. Finally, the proposed CFDO is applied to classical engineering problems, such as pressure vessel design and the result shows that CFDO can handle the problem better than WOA, GWO, FDO, and CGWO. Besides, CFDO is applied to solve the task assignment problem and then compared to the original FDO. The results prove that CFDO has better capability to solve the problem.
