To report the surgical details and results of our technique of Transmasseteric antero-parotid approach (TMAP) through modified preauricular lazy ‘S’ incision for management of mandibular condylar fractures. This was an observational analysis of 65 patients where 25 patients were treated with conventional preauricular approach, 25 patients with closed reduction and 15 patients with a mean age of 29.4 years with condylar fractures were treated by TMAP technique between September 2016 to June 2018. Aim of the study was to evaluate the proficiency of TMAP approach for open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of condylar fracture. The only complication which was noticed was sialocele formation and managed by drainage. TMAP is versatile since it avoids facial nerve damage as it involves identification and preservation of facial nerve and   has less chances of post-operative complications related to facial nerve injury. The accessibility achieved by this approach is fair enough to facilitate anatomic reduction and fixation of condyle.

Background: Incisional hernia is a common surgical condition encountered in day to day practice. Based on national operative statistics, incisional hernias account for 15 to 20% of all abdominal wall hernias. Of all hernias encountered incisional hernias can be the most frustrating and challenging to treat. This prospective study aims to assess the efficacy of preperitoneal mesh repair technique using polypropylene mesh in the management of incisional hernia.Methods: A total of 40 patients with incisional hernia undergone open preperitoneal polypropylene mesh repair. It had evaluated for post-operative complications and recurrence for six months to one-year post-surgery. The results had tabulated statistically analysed and compared with other published reports in the literature.Results: Out of 40 patients, the size of the defect, 10 patients had less than 2 cm, 28 patients had between 2.1-4 cm, 1 patient between 4.1-6 cm and 1 patient between 6.1-8 cm. The type of hernia, 32 patients had infra umbilical hernia, and 8 patients had a supraumbilical hernia. Post-operative complication 3 patients had seroma, 1 patient had edge necrosis, 1 patient had post-op ileus, and 1 patient had chronic pain. Based on follow up, 4 patients had followed until 6 months, 10 patients till 9 months and 26 patients till one year.Conclusions: Post-operative complications following open preperitoneal polypropylene mesh repair are considerably less compared to other techniques of mesh repair and showed no recurrence among its subjects during the follow-up period, and longer follow-up is required to draw a definitive conclusion.

Aim: The aim of the study is to observe the result of thyroidectomy without keeping drain tube. Methods: This is a prospective study of a series of patients who underwent thyroidectomy without drain from January 2017 to December 2019. Presence of any post-operative complications like hematoma, seromas and hemorrhage were recorded. Results: Among 105 patients included in this study only one patient had post-operative hematoma. There was neither hemorrhage nor seroma in other any patients. Proper hemostasis was maintained during surgery of all these cases. Their post-operative recovery was good. Conclusion: Drainage is may not be required after thyroidectomy if proper and adequate hemostasis is ensured. Bangladesh J Otorhinolaryngol; April 2020; 26(1): 41-44
