In this paper, we try to give a classification of spacelike hypersurfaces of the Lorentz-Minkowski space-time E1n+1, whose mean curvature vector field of order (k+ 1) is an eigenvector of the kth linearized operator Lk, for a non-negative integer k less than n. The operator Lk is defined as the linear part of the first variation of the (k + 1)th mean curvature of a hypersurface arising from its normal variations. We show that any spacelike hypersurface of E1n+1 satisfying the condition LkHk+1 = λHk+1 (where 0 ≤ k ≤ n − 1) belongs to the class of Lk-biharmonic, Lk-1-type or Lk-null-2-type hypersurface. Furthermore, we study the above condition on a well-known family of spacelike hypersurfaces of Lorentz-Minkowski spaces, named the weakly convex hypersurfaces (i.e. on which all of principle curvatures are nonnegative). We prove that, on any weakly convex spacelike hypersurface satisfying the above condition for an integer k (where, 0 ≤ r ≤ n−1), the (k + 1)th mean curvature will be constant. As an interesting result, any weakly convex spacelike hypersurfaces, having assumed to be Lk-biharmonic, has to be k-maximal.

A well-known conjecture of Bang Yen-Chen says that the only biharmonic Euclidean submanifolds are minimal ones. In this paper, we consider an extended condition (namely, $L_1$-biharmonicity) on non-degenerate timelike hypersurfaces of the pseudo-Euclidean space $E_1^4$. A Lorentzian hypersurface $x: M_1^3\rightarrow\E_1^4$ is called $L_1$-biharmonic if it satisfies the condition $L_1^2x=0$, where $L_1$ is the linearized operator associated to the first variation of 2-th mean curvature vector field on $M_1^3$. According to the multiplicities of principal curvatures, the $L_1$-extension of Chen's conjecture is affirmed for Lorentzian hypersurfaces with constant ordinary mean curvature in pseudo-Euclidean space $E_1^4$. Additionally, we show that there is no proper $L_1$-biharmonic $L_1$-finite type connected orientable Lorentzian hypersurface in $E_1^4$.

AbstractBernstein's theorem states that the only complete minimal graphs in R3 are the hyperplanes. We shall produce evidence in favour of some conjectural generalizations of this theorem for the cases of spacelike hypersurfaces of constant mean curvature in Minkowski space and in de Sitter space. The results suggest that the class of asymptotically simple space-times admitting a complete spacelike hypersurface of constant mean curvature may well be considerably smaller than the general class of asymptotically simple space-times.

AbstractIn this paper we study the problem of uniqueness for spacelike hypersurfaces with constant higher order mean curvature in generalized Robertson–Walker (GRW) spacetimes. In particular, we consider the following question: under what conditions must a compact spacelike hypersurface with constant higher order mean curvature in a spatially closed GRW spacetime be a spacelike slice? We prove that this happens, essentially, under the so callednull convergence condition. Our approach is based on the use of the Newton transformations (and their associated differential operators) and the Minkowski formulae for spacelike hypersurfaces.

We obtain a height estimate concerning to a compact spacelike hypersurfaceΣnimmersed with constant mean curvatureHin the anti-de Sitter spaceℍ1n+1, when its boundary∂Σis contained into an umbilical spacelike hypersurface of this spacetime which is isometric to the hyperbolic spaceℍn. Our estimate depends only on the value ofHand on the geometry of∂Σ.As applications of our estimate, we obtain a characterization of hyperbolic domains ofℍ1n+1and nonexistence results in connection with such types of hypersurfaces.

AbstractWe study the evolution of spacelike hypersurface moving by mean curvature minus an external force field in Minkowski space. It is shown that the flow will exist for all time if the initial spacelike surface has two compact spacelike barrier surfaces and the external force field satisfies a weak convexity condition.

In this paper, we deal with complete noncompact spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in a weighted conformally stationary spacetime endowed with a closed conformal timelike vector field [Formula: see text]. Under suitable constraints on the weighted mean curvature of such a spacelike hypersurface, we establish sufficient conditions to ensure that it must be an integral leaf of the foliation orthogonal to [Formula: see text].

Abstract We consider an asymmetric left-invariant norm ∥ ⋅ ∥ K {\|\cdot\|_{K}} in the first Heisenberg group ℍ 1 {\mathbb{H}^{1}} induced by a convex body K ⊂ ℝ 2 {K\subset\mathbb{R}^{2}} containing the origin in its interior. Associated to ∥ ⋅ ∥ K {\|\cdot\|_{K}} there is a perimeter functional, that coincides with the classical sub-Riemannian perimeter in case K is the closed unit disk centered at the origin of ℝ 2 {{\mathbb{R}}^{2}} . Under the assumption that K has C 2 {C^{2}} boundary with strictly positive geodesic curvature we compute the first variation formula of perimeter for sets with C 2 {C^{2}} boundary. The localization of the variational formula in the non-singular part of the boundary, composed of the points where the tangent plane is not horizontal, allows us to define a mean curvature function H K {H_{K}} out of the singular set. In the case of non-vanishing mean curvature, the condition that H K {H_{K}} be constant implies that the non-singular portion of the boundary is foliated by horizontal liftings of translations of ∂ ⁡ K {\partial K} dilated by a factor of 1 H K {\frac{1}{H_{K}}} . Based on this we can define a sphere 𝕊 K {\mathbb{S}_{K}} with constant mean curvature 1 by considering the union of all horizontal liftings of ∂ ⁡ K {\partial K} starting from ( 0 , 0 , 0 ) {(0,0,0)} until they meet again in a point of the vertical axis. We give some geometric properties of this sphere and, moreover, we prove that, up to non-homogeneous dilations and left-translations, they are the only solutions of the sub-Finsler isoperimetric problem in a restricted class of sets.

AbstractIn this paper, as a suitable application of the well-known generalized maximum principle of Omori–Yau, we obtain uniqueness results concerning to complete spacelike hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature immersed in a Robertson–Walker (RW) spacetime. As an application of such uniqueness results for the case of vertical graphs in a RW spacetime, we also get non-parametric rigidity results.
