AbstractLower Palaeozoic mudstones from Cwmcadian, Gwynedd are dominantly composed of quartz, illite and chlorite, with subordinate albite, orthoclase and rutile. Chemical formulae are determined for chlorite and illite using a combination of chemical and X-ray data. The formulae indicate that the illite is dioctahedral and suggest that the chlorite structure contains one dioctahedral and one trioctahedral layer. The hypothesis is put forward that both minerals formed from a dioctahedral mineral; illite from a non-expanded form and chlorite from an 'open' form by precipitation of a Fe2+/Mg hydroxide interlayer.

Most accounts of Earle Brown’s open form compositions focus on the notated qualities of individual events in the score. However, the conductor’s role in ensuring continuity and formal coherence within a performance is rarely acknowledged. In this article, I analyze recordings of three performances of Brown conducting his composition Novara (1962), two with the Virtuoso Ensemble in 1966 and one with a group of Dutch musicians in 1974. The conductor’s interventions in each performance embody a range of strategies used to suggest structural function and organize the time of performance. The multiplicity of musical processes in play within—and between—performances in turn suggests a parallel with Jonathan Kramer’s concept of multiply-directed linear time.

While administering Na silicici injections to a patient with open form of tbc, suffering at the same time typical attacks of bronchial asthma, the author accidentally noticed that asthma attacks in this patient in connection with the treatment disappeared and did not recur for 9 months. Further application of these injections in 20 cases of bronchial asthma gave the same favorable results.
