AbstractA novel reddish-orange emitting phosphor Eu-activated KLaSiO4 was synthesized by the conventional solid-state reaction at 1200 °C. The luminescence properties of KLaSiO4:Eu phosphor were investigated, and the critical concentration of the activator ion (Eu3+) was established as 0.02 mol per formula unit. Chromaticity coordinates of a typical KLa0.98SiO4:0.02Eu phosphor were x = 0.614 and y = 0.385. The phosphor exhibited reddish-orange luminescence with dominating emission at 612 nm, corresponding to 5D0 → 7F2 of Eu3+. Furthermore, the phosphor was characterized by excellent thermal stability, implying its potential use in white light emitting diodes.

(PO4)3- -doped red phosphors, Na5Eu(MoO4)4-x(PO4)x (x ≤ 0.10), were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method, and their luminescent properties were studied. Under the excitation of near-UV 395 nm, the phosphors show intense red emission. In particular, the relative emission intensity of Na5Eu(MoO4)3.96(PO4)0.04 sample reaches about 5.0 times in comparison with that of the commercial red phosphor Y2O2S:Eu3+. The phosphor could be suitable for the application of white light-emitting diodes.

A series of Na5La(WO4)4:M3+ (M = Eu, Sm, Bi) phosphors have been synthesized successfully by the solid-state reactions. The corresponding crystal structure and lattice parameters were refined by the Rietveld method, and the impact of doped metal ions upon the structure were also studied. The photoluminescent properties were investigated at room temperature. All the samples were observed a strong red emission under 395nm or 465 nm excitation, and the CIE chromaticity coordinates (x = 0.67, y = 0.33) was found to be close to the National Television Standard Committee (NTSC) standard red, implying high color purity. This kind of tungstate phosphor is a promising candidate as the red phosphor for white light-emitting diodes (WLED).

Ce3+-doped 0.5La2O3-2SrO-0.5Al2O3 (LSA:Ce) phosphors had been successfully synthesized using a conventional solid-state reaction method under reducing atmosphere (H2/N2 =1/5). The phase, morphologies and luminescence properties of the LSA:Ce phosphors were investigated. The emission intensity of LSA:Ce phosphors was improved by the addition of SrF2 as flux, and red shift of PL spectra peak was observed in this phosphors. Research results shown that the LSA:Ce phosphors have the potential to meet the development of white light-emitting diodes.
