The properties of a Cu-Pb oxide ore are investigated by XRD and SEM. Results show that the ore is characterized by chalcocite, galena, azurite and cerusite. Copper and lead phases analysis show that the oxidation rates of copper and lead are up to 70% and 72%, respectively. In order to get a good flotation performance for the difficult-to-treat ore, an efficient flotation technology of bulk flotation of Cu-Pb sulfides, separation of Cu-Pb sulfides, copper and lead oxides flotation has been developed. By applying the combined depressants (sodium thiosulfate + peroxide), activator Disulhydroxybenzen Thiodiazole (developed by Kunming Metallurgy Research Institute) in copper oxide flotation and sodium sulfide in flotation of lead oxide, chalcocite and galena can be separated and the Cu-Pb oxides can be activated. Results in closed circuit test show that when the feed assays 0.59% Cu, 2.40% Pb and 39.87 g/t Ag, marketable copper sulfide and oxide concentrates, lead sulfide and oxide concentrates can be obtained. At the same time, silver got enriched in the concentrates too. This study is expected to give a technical support in utilizing this complex Cu-Pb oxide ores.

The deactivation and destabilization of copper sulfide when exposed to an oxidizing environment has led to the economical concerns as this sulfidic material can be easily destroyed by a series of oxidation processes. A promising and effective remediation technique in limiting the contact between covellite (CuS) and oxygen has been developed using a simple, hassle-free, non-corrosive, and eco-friendly pre-treatment of nitrogen approach. This remediation technique is remarkably effective as various techniques such as powder XRD, EDX, elemental mapping, and TGA-MS analyses have confirmed that covellite prepared with the pre-treatment of nitrogen does not oxidize to any mixed phase compound. Meanwhile, the study also shows that covellite stored without the pre-treatment of nitrogen has transformed to a mixed phase of pentahydrate copper sulfate and covellite. Hence, this method can be practically exercised not only on covellite, but possibly on other metal sulfides which are prone to be attacked by oxygen and water molecules in oxidizing environment.

The use of immunogold-silver staining (IGSS) to enhance label penetration and Localization for immunocytochemistry or in situ hybridization utilizing a variety of metallic salts has been documented. In this morphological study, the effects of silver acetate, silver lactate and silver nitrate were evaluated for immunogold-labeling of a trial natriuretic peptides (ANP) in rat right atria.Eight Wistar Kyoto retired breeders were sedated with pentobarbital, perfused with either 4% paraformaldehyde (LM) or Karnovsky's fixative (EM), and right atria were dissected, processed, embedded in paraffin or epon, respectively and sectioned according to conventional methods. For light microscopy, an indirect IGSS method according to Hacker (3) was performed. Paraffin sections on glass slides were washed in ddH2O, immersed in Lugol's iodine, washed in ddH2O and treated with 2.5% aqueous sodium thiosulfate for 20 sec. After additional washes in ddH2O and TBS-0.1% fish gelatin, 10% normal goat serum (PBS with 1% BSA) was applied for 20 min before an overnight incubation at 4°C with a polyclonal α-ANP primary antibody (Peninsula Labs, 1:1000 in TBS/BSA).

Valleriite is an unusual mineral, consisting of intergrowths of sulfide layers (corresponding in structure to the mineral smythite - Fe9S11) and hydroxide layers (corresponding to brucite - Mg(OH2)). It has a composition of approximately 1.526[Mg.68Al.32(OH)2].[Fe1.07Cu.93S2] and consists of two interpenetrating lattices, each of which retains its individual structural and diffraction characteristics parallel to the layering. The valleriite structure is related to that of tochilinite, an unusual iron-rich mineral that is of considerable interest for the origin of certain carbonaceous chondrite meteorites and to those of franckeite and cylindrite, two minerals that are of interest because of their unique morphological and crystallographic properties, e.g., the distinctive curved form of cylindrite and the perfect mica-like cleavage with unusual striations and the long-period wavy structure of franckeite. Our selected-area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) images of valleriite provide new structural data. A basic structure and a new superstructure have been observed.
