On Friday, February 25, 2021 PC NU Banyuwangi held a discussion event NU academics by inviting Rector of IAI Ibrahimy Genteng, Rector of IAI Darussalam Blokagung Karangdoro and Chairman of STAI Darul Ulum Sumberberas. The discussion decided the establishment of PTNU Banyuwangi Communication Forum as a forum for friendship of NU academics. This forum places the top level of management in its structure. Kh. Ahmad Munib Syafa'at, L.c., M.EI. (Rector of IAIDA) was appointed as the leader of the forum. This forum sets out the vision of "consolidated NU academics for the benefit of jam'iyah and NU Banyuwangi citizens, with the mission of becoming a reference forum for every issue both internal NU and external NU. The forum also sets out the working program: (a) regular thematic discussions (switching campuses) every month; (b) the lecturers are assisted to accompany institutions and banom and structures under PCNU, especially madrasahs under LP Ma'arif; (c) collaborative research on themes related to the existence of NU. Given the new age of this forum, its existence needs to be optimized, although some campuses have partially performed their role in community development, both individually and institutionally. This article (a) will review the optimalisasai process of PTNU in Banyuwangi, especially those incorporated in the PTNU Banyuwangi Communication Forum; (b) the prospect of its role for community development in the management perspective.

AbstractCommunity research and action is an evolving field of practice with multiple influences. Its varied ways of knowing and doing reflect recombined elements from different disciplines, including behavioral science, community psychology, public health, and community development. This article offers a personal reflection based on my evolving practice over nearly 50 years. The focus is on three types of influence: (a) engaging with different communities, fields, and networks (e.g., discovering shared values, diverse methods); (b) building methods and capabilities for the work (e.g., methods for participatory research, tools for capacity building); and (c) partnering for collaborative research and action, locally and globally. This story highlights the nature of the field’s evolution as an increasing variation in methods. Our evolving practice of community research and action—individually and collectively—emerges from the recombination of ideas and methods discovered through engagement in a wide variety of contexts.

This chapter illustrates two examples of collaborative research with women's groups, from an Australian research study, exploring how people make their lives in new places. It draws attention to some of the challenges and opportunities of collaborative social research. This analysis draws from the extensive body of theoretical work on social, participatory and activist research, community engagement and development practice, and the ongoing critique of these endeavours. Equally, this examination can be informed by the direct experiences of people engaging in collaborative social research and the impact and value they identify. As with much community development practice, collaborative social research seeks to make a positive difference in people's lives, and generate change or support social action so the drive for impact is embedded in the research intent.
