The text reconstructs the protocol of 'victory' as part of the interruption of enmity and establishment of temporary peace. Different understandings of the enemy and enmity imply that victory in war and cessation of conflict can essentially determine the way war is conducted, and that they follow rules of war. Victory is supposed to be a crucial moment that characterizes the ethics of war. Particular testimonies and thematizations of victory in the Orthodox Christian tradition can provide an intro-duction into a potential ethics of war that could ensure a new relationship towards the enemy and killing the enemy.

The purpose of the present article—the second instalment in the "Unpublished Texts from the Arab Orthodox Tradition" series—is to make accessible a hitherto neglected document from the Orthodox Christian tradition in Arabic: a brief account of the miracles of a little-known saint, St. Eustratius of Mar Saba (first half of the ninth century), a disciple of the famous St. Stephen of Mar Saba (d. 31 March 794AD).

The theme of creation's praise of God has occasionally appeared in ecological theological literature but its full potential has not yet been realized. An engagement between the biblical text and Christian tradition, exemplified by Psalm 148 and the work of Thomas Aquinas, may allow this theme to take on a greater importance. Understanding praise as essential to creation's being allows humanity and non-humanity to be identified much more closely while producing a theology which is firmly grounded in the richness of orthodox Christian tradition.

At several times, Gurdjieff taught exercises in Transformed-contemplation that call on the exercitant to use the prayer “Lord have mercy.” Those that were recorded by George Adie, Helen Adie, and Jeanne de Salzmann are noted and commented upon. Gurdjieff related the prayer to his own teaching, and in particular to the words “I am” and “I wish to be. I have the sensation of myself,” and restraining one’s emanations, all as elements of a prayer. The exercise also points to Gurdjieff’s likely sources in the Orthodox Christian tradition, and his statement that some of the Christian liturgy had come from “ancient knowledge”. It is further evidence of the religious turn which his teaching was increasingly taking in the 1940s, marking a contrast with the earlier dispensation, especially that of the Russian years. Interestingly, George Adie specifically related the version of the “Lord Have Mercy Exercise” which he had been taught to the “Practice of the Presence of God,” known from the work of Brother Lawrence of the Resurrection.

The article considers one of the ways of development of the genre of the classic novel on the example of «Toyota-Kresta» by M.A. Tarkovsky. It is proved that the specificity of the novel is determined by strict hierarchy of three planes: natural, literary, and religious. Christian axiology determines the presence of an «iddillic situation», the interaction of folklore and Orthodox Christian images, the literary context and stylistic originality.
