A new seedborne strain of cucumber mosaic cucumovirus (CMV) that induces severe symptoms on many cowpea genotypes was detected in Georgia in 1994. This strain, designated CMV-Csb, is asymptomatic on tobacco, but it produces more severe cowpea stunt symptoms when present in combination with blackeye cowpea mosaic potyvirus than do the more prevalent CMV isolates. The new strain is seedborne in cowpea (1.5 to 37%), has no associated satellite RNA, and is classified as a member of subgroup I of CMV strains based on nucleic acid hybridization assays.

AbstractThe taxonomy of the Asian genera of the subfamily Betylobraconinae, a small and understudied group within the hymenopteran family Braconidae, is revised. A new genus exclusively from the Asian region, Asiabregma gen. nov., containing three species (A. ryukyuensis sp. nov. (type species, Japan and Malaya), A. makiharai sp. nov. (Japan) and A. sulaensis (van Achterberg), comb. nov. (Indonesia)) is described. One new species of Aulosaphobracon, A. striatus sp. nov. from Vietnam, and one of Facitorus, F. amamioshimus sp. nov. from Japan, are also described. Based on molecular phylogenetic analyses using COI mtDNA and 28S rRNA sequences, the three genera previously placed in the tribe Facitorini, Facitorus, Conobregma and Jannya, together with Asiabregma gen. nov., are transferred to the rogadine tribe Yeliconini.

An endoconidial, black meristematic taxon Atramixtia arboricola gen. et. sp. nov. (Dothideales) from the black subicula found on twigs of declining white spruce, Picea glauca (Moench) Voss, in Alberta is described. It is morphologically distinguishable from other endoconidial taxa by the conidioma composed of clumps of endoconidial conidiogenous cells, scattered meristematically dividing cells, dematiaceous hyphae, abundant brown, granular matrix materials, and sometimes plant tissue. Endoconidia also occur in conidiogenous cellular clumps that are not organized into a conidioma but develop directly from stromatic cells on the bark. In culture, it forms similar endoconidial conidiomata and also a mycelial, blastic synanamorph that superficially resembles Hormonema . Atramixtia arboricola is a member of the Dothideales and shows phylogenetic affinities to a clade of conifer-stem and -needle pathogens, including Sydowia and Delphinella , although no teleomorph was found either on the natural substrate or in culture. It has not been determined whether A. arboricola is pathogenic to its host, but the occurrence of abundant intracellular hyphae in the host periderm suggests that the fungus is at least parasitic.

AbstractThe Jurassic odonate family Steleopteridae is revised. Two new genera and species Parasteleopteron guischardi and Euparasteleopteron viohli are described. The phylogenetic affinities of this group are discussed. The Steleopteridae are excluded from the Epiproctophora and transferred into the Zygoptera (stemgroup). Euphaeopsis multinervis is redescribed and transferred to Epiproctophora: Isophlebioidea, and the genus Pseudoeuphaea with its four species is considered as a nomen dubium in Odonata incertae sedis.
