Abstract CARPENTER STAINLESS No. 5-F is a modification of AISI Type 416 stainless steel and was designed for an optimum combination of machinability and corrosion resistance. It comprises a specially balanced analysis and is essentially non-hardenable. It is recommended for all screw-machine applications, particularly those involving intricate machining operations or where superior finishes are required as-machined. Its uses include valve trim, carburetor needles and many other screw-machine parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties as well as creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-275. Producer or source: Carpenter. Originally published July 1972, revised July 1980.

Abstract CARPENTER PROJECT 70 STAINLESS TYPE 416 is an improved modification of Carpenter Stainless No. 5, the first free-machining stainless steel ever made. This grade has significantly better machinability than the conventional AISI Type 416. Carpenter Project 70 Stainless Type 416 is suited particularly for automatic screw-machine operations where the longer tool life results in more productive machine time. Among its many uses are fittings, gears, shafts and valve stems. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-459. Producer or source: Carpenter.

Abstract UNILOY 434 is a medium-chromium (17%), non-hardening, ferritic stainless steel containing an addition of molybdenum (nominally 1%). The molybdenum addition creates a grade with increased resistance to corrosion. This steel (when compared with the molybdenum-free grade, AISI Type 430 or Uniloy 430) shows improved resistance to pitting attack from various de-icing chemicals. In addition, the color of Uniloy 434, when buffed, closely resembles that of bright chromium plate. Hence a popular application for Uniloy 434 is automotive trim. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness and creep. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-422. Producer or source: Cyclops Cytemp.
