Abstract RED CUT SUPERIOR is a high-speed steel of the 18% tungsten-4% chromium-1% vanadium type. Many consider it to be the best type of high-speed steel for general purposes. It is comparatively easy to fabricate and simple to heat treat. It has a minimum tendency to decarburize and an excellent combination of cutting ability and toughness. Its many uses include drills, reamers, milling cutters, lathe tools, punches, dies and springs for use at elevated temperature.
