This article is about the famous sound engineer, talented musician and teacher Vitaly Nikolayevich Gushchin, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of various areas of sound engineering in Uzbekistan, including music, audiovisual and radio ones. He is one of those who carried out highly professional sound recording of classical, folk and pop music works, which made up the richest fund of national culture and are in great consumer demand. V. N. Gushchin trained several generations of specialists who successfully work in many areas of sound engineering in the republic and abroad.

A sound system operator at a wedding celebration in Nogosari, Boyolali, has his own perception in addressing the sound management. One of the operators in this area is Dardi. Neither coming from a family of musicians not having academic background in the field of sound engineering, Dardi is capable of operating the sound system to satisfy his listeners with his performance. As a sound system regulator, Dardi has served sound system service providers at celebrations with puppet shows, dangdut, rebana, and campursari. Each performance is carried out with a different setup. Among the differing setups, Dardi is more competent in the setup of campursari shows. Based on the Dardi’s perceptions on sound system regulation, the author is interested in studying the perception of the sound system operator in the sound of campursari music? Based on the findings from the analysis of Dardi's perception as the sound system operator, there are many considerations and adaptations to different places of performance. He initially practiced in the field without being equipped with theory or science, that he tried his best to be approved by following his brother’s workflow. Through this process, he slowly learned and perfected his own amplification setup. His habit of listening to the sounds of various musical instruments also helps sharpen his musical sensitivity. The awareness that was built by Dardi was through empirical experience and instinct for the sounds he heard. This makes his sound system settings always changes instead of being fixed.

An ash monofill was studied from 1997 to 2001. Monitoring results of the lined landfill showed viability of liner since groundwater standards were not exceeded. Raw leachate of RCRA heavy metal leachate results show Chromium reaching groundwater standards while Lead, Cadmium and Zinc slightly exceed these standards. An upset incident of premature set-up of lime-laden ash caused a back-up and overflow condition in 1994. Adding water of solubilization and field compaction achieves optimal geo-technical properties and reduces heavy metal leachate. This water addition would have also reduced fugitive dust concerns. These principles of sound engineering management of MWC residues were well-known and widely publicized. If the landfill operator had applied these principles the upset incident could have been avoided. Long-term trends of RCRA heavy metal leachate results show compliance with groundwater standards, although Lead, Cadmium and Zinc exceed these standards. Application of sound engineering placement practice would have reduced these long-term trends. USA Regulatory officials should consider incorporating these principles into residue management recommendations, following Environment Canada’s example. Recognition and implementation of these principles would confirm that incinerator ash can be properly managed — to alleviate concerns — justifying their beneficial reuse.

Are the sinuous forms of the Disney Hall by Frank O. Gehry concrete testimonies of architectural ideology, or are they demonstrations of sound engineering and construction?
